13 When I awoke I lay on my sleeping mat, and I was alone. I sat up and looked out the single open window in the room. Night was falling, and with it fell my heart. Another day was gone, and there was less than two days to go until the horrible event that would bring about the destruction of the village. The door opened and Bee stood in the doorway. Her eyes fell on me and she smiled. “Good evening, Jane.” “Hi, Grandma,” I replied as I rubbed the remaining sleep from my eyes. “Did you want some food?” she suggested. I stood and stretched my arms above my head.
