I was in the kitchen making dinner and Maeve walked in.

Emma - how was your day Maeve?

Maeve – nah uh sister you know I am mad at you

Me realizing I know what she’s talking about. A couple nights ago Grayson proposed and I said no in front of his whole family and his and I’s friends. EVERYONE was shocked and he looked at me with confusion and I didn’t know how to respond so I walked right out of the park.

Emma – youre talking about me rejecting your brothers proposal?

Maeve – duh what is wrong with you? I get he cheated on you but that was like forever ago and that w***e drugged him so technically that’s not cheating he was r***d basically

Emma – it has nothing to do with that

Maeve – then what the f**k is it? You’re carrying my niece or nephew and his son or daughter and you want to reject him? Omg is the baby not his? Emma did you cheat on my brother?

She said with such disgust and the rapid firing of questions hurt my head.

Maeve had shock written all over her face

We all go into the living room

Grayson couldn’t believe his ears. Maeve and Grayson wanted to walk out.

They both shut up because when their mother yells then it means it is serious or she’s mad or both

Emma – I got married straight out of HS. His name was Ashton Lawrence, we knew each other since we were kids. We started dating when we were 12 and at that time we just knew. So we eloped and his parents signed for both of us. My mom was against it. We lived together at his parents place. It was good for awhile until it wasn’t. he worked fulltime and I was in school. We had no major bills so we saved money. But then ash had an accident at work. He got hurt and went to the doctors and the they prescribed him opioids. He got addicted and then he started drinking his feelings away. He would come home drunk and I tried to avoid him. One night I went to bed early and I was tired after final exams and he came home late. He r***d me that night and almost killed me by choking me. I kicked him in the balls and got dressed and called 911. He got arrested and went to jail. I told his parents and they were going to start the process of evicting him. A week later he made bail and I was home alone and I heard someone come in and I thought it was me or mrs Lawrence but I was wrong and I wasn’t paying attention until it was too late. Ash had me by the neck against the wall and he blamed me for everything. We were in the kitchen and I reached for anything to hit him with to get away. And then I realized there was an Alexa in the kitchen so I tried to speak and said “Alexa call 911” that caught him off guard and it grip loosened on my neck and I grabbed a kitchen knife because that was the closest thing to me but he somehow knew my next move and grabbed the knife and stabbed me in the stomach. He ran out of the house after that. The police showed up 3 minutes after that. They got to me in time. I went to the hospital. Found out I was pregnant but because of the injury the baby didn’t make it. I wasn’t far along enough to give birth so they did a D&C. I lost a lot of blood and I almost died. His parents came to the hospital and they were at court finalizing the eviction. His younger sister Opal stayed in the hospital with me. Ash was on the run the cops couldn’t find him. So when I was healthy enough to be released I went home. This all happened when I was 18. When I turned 19 I left his parents house and moved in with my sister Carson. I changed my last name back to Parker and I couldn’t get the divorce because I didn’t know where he was and I didn’t want him to find me. I thought I was safe, and I was for a bit until March 20, 2016. I was 20 and my little sister and I were driving to our moms and we got into a car crash. I almost died again. But my little sister died and she was pregnant. Her and her baby both died. Her gf didn’t know she was pregnant. About a couple months later I found out that the car accident wasn’t an accident. It was planned. Ash was the driver that hit me and my sister. Found out that a 6 months before the crash that my sister got r***d by a guy and she filed a report and the guy got arrested and he made bail but he learned my sisters name and when he found out my sisters last name, he searched for her. Turns out a couple days before the crash he found her and he saw me. He saw that Carson was pregnant and he over heard our plans to go see our mom. He also got my license plate number and put a tracker on my car. I only found out it was ash through the police reports. He went to jail for murder of my sister and the baby. I tried to file the divorce and he wont sign the papers. So be mad at me. But I didn’t lie because no one asked.

Grayson and maeve face was unreadable. Grayson got up and I thought he was going to walk out of the room. But he surprised me. He hugged me.

Grayson – Emma Im so sorry. I love you. I love you.

Maeve – hold on did you say Asher Lawrence?

Emma – yea why?

Maeve – mom?

Faye – what?

Maeve pulls up a picture on her phone and shows me and my face turns pale.

Maeve – maeve is this him?

I look it up and turns out he got out two years ago.

Emma – he got released on parole for good behavior

Faye – gray call your dad, luke, paul and matthew now. Tell them to come to the house say it’s a life or death situation and they need to be here in less 8 min.

Grayson – I already did. And I texted jack, oliver and ryan. Theyre coming and so are the police

5 minutes later 7 cars park into the big lot in the back. All the men come out of their car.

Wyatt – whats going on gray texted me

All of their faces go from calm to protective mode. Theyre all grays friends and they’ve known me for years.

8 police cars show up all with 2 cops in each car.

Maeve – im on the phone with my wife I texted her whats going on she said shes pulling up soon and the cops need to hide.

Kiples- can we park in the lot behind the house?

The cops move their cars and park behind the guys big ass trucks. I see calypsos car. I feel like im going to puke. Grayson has his hand extended and Im behind him. Hes in protective mode. I see a tall white guy with arm tats he gets out of the car and calypso gets back in her car and locks it. The people that are outside are me, grayson, faye and maeve all the men and cops are hiding until the right time. The man locks eyes with me and moves closer. I hear the front door open. Jack, oliver, ryan, luke, paul, matthew and wyatt step outside and they are all surrounding me like a wall. He speaks.

Ash – what is going on. Cal whats going on. Hello emma. Its been a long time baby.

Graysons grip tightens on my waist

Ash – I see you told them all. Shes a liar you know? She manipulates the truth.

Jack – you don’t know what youre talking about.

Ash – what are you? Her bf?

Grayson – no I am and you better leave my property

In a split second he is surrounded by cops

Ash puts his hands in the air and I see a gun but before I say anything, a loud bang starts ringing in my ears and before I process it all, ash is on the ground bleeding.

Faye – mom?

Everyone turns around and there she is. Delilah In her nightgown standing on the porch with a rifle.

Grayson – oh jesus what the f**k Delilah!

Delilah – you idiots all been waiting to get shot and I am old so yall cant arrest me. I have to poop bye.

Luke – did that just happen

Im not fully here. Delilah shot ash and officer kiples is checking if hes alive

Kiples – hes breathing, call an ambo

Faye – idk sweetheart. All of you inside.

I cant move. I need to know that he is dead. Grayson tries to move me.

I go inside and grab my keys off the table and before anyone realizes whats happening, I run out the door and get in my car and drive. I left my phone at home on purpose. I have my wallet and purse.

I go inside with emma and we were about to go upstairs and then luke stops me to talk to me and when he finished, I went upstairs to check on emma. I go to her room and shes not there. I go to mine and shes not there. I go to the bathroom and shes not there. I run downstairs. My mom sees me panicked.

Faye – sweetheart are you ok?

I look outside and the cops are rolling ash onto the gurney. Emma isn’t out there. I go into the kitchen Maeve, Calypso, Jack, my dad, Luke, Matthew, Paul, Ryan, Oliver, Theo and Evie are all in the kitchen. They all see me and their faces drop.

Matthew – dude whats wrong?

Grayson – wheres emma?

Faye – her car is gone

I hear ringing. That’s her phone. She left her phone s**t.

I don’t know whats going throught her mind.

Time feels like it has stopped. I see everyone surrounding me and all I want is emma. I want to be close to her. I want to fix everything and I want to kill that SOB who hurt her. Next thing I know I am headed outside. That asshole does not get to live. I grab delilahs gun. One of the cops sees me. “sir put down the gun” “PUT DOWN THE GUN” “PUT DOWN THE GUN”. I feel a hand wrap around my arm. “gray put down the gun, hes not worth it. Let him rot in jail” maeve says. “grayson go with calypso and maeve and luke to find her son” says my mom. I let the gun go and I run inside and grab my keys, I get in the car and before I speed off luke opends the door and gets in the front seat. All the guys get in their cars and so does my dad and my mom joins him. They all go looking for emma. Maeve and calypso go to her sisters grave in case shes there. What is going through her mind? Why does she have to do things like this?

Luke – grayson shes gonna be okay. Grayson? Dude? Im driving get out. SWITCH b***h!

I get out and we switch sides, hes right im not in the right head to drive.

Emma

I know where im going. We’re in Philly and Im not going to ediths. I know one of them will look for me at my sisters grave and I don’t want to be found. So I go to the place I know they wont find me. I go to a payphone.

Claire – hello?

Emma – claire I need you to send me somewhere now

Claire – whats going on? Are you talking about the program? Em?

Emma – he found me claire. He found me and he got shot but hes alive and you know him he will come back and find me

Claire – okay okay um theres a family in Georgia looking for a stay at home nanny. We will change your name. we will give you the money. I will get Isaac to do everything by tonight to get you there, theres an apartment and I will put it in your name. we will handle the costs and whatever else. Emma? Are you ever coming back?

Emma – I don’t know. Not until he is gone.

Claire – what about grayson? Rachel?

Emma – don’t tell them. They cannot know. Please? Confidentiality.

Claire – you got it. My sister will kill me you know that.

Emma – Rachel will understand later. Okay?

Claire – yeah yeah.

I drive to the airport. Claire and her husband Isaac own an organization where they help women and mothers flee domestic violence. They helped me awhile back but as much as they could because it was a small organization back then. Now they have more funding and more resources. I have to get rid of my car and everything that will track them to me. I don’t want to to leave them. But I have no choice. I want to call him but I cant.
