Chapter 4---Taking Down Harrison

Three years later, Gaiara International Airport. Inside the terminal, a breaking news alert echoed through the loudspeakers— "Latest business update from Gaiara: Fields Group has purchased all land along Indigo Street, planning to develop a large-scale entertainment complex. Indigo Street is a prestigious residential area, lined with luxury apartments and villas. Demolition is expected to pose significant challenges. We've just interviewed Chase Fields, CEO of Fields Group. How does he plan to overcome this?" Wendy Moore had just landed when the giant screen in the hall caught her attention. On the screen, a man in a cool gray suit sat with perfect posture, his white shirt fastened with a precisely knotted black tie. His pale skin held no trace of softness, and his sharp, sculpted features radiated a cold, refined elegance—so striking that one glance was unforgettable. His hands were lightly clasped on his lap as he faced the camera with calm confidence. A faint, distant smile touched his lips. "No one ever has too much money—not even the wealthy residents of Indigo Street. If money can't solve a problem, it simply means the amount isn't large enough." The host's eyes sparkled with admiration. She asked politely, "Mr. Fields, may we know how soon your company plans to complete this massive and complex demolition project?" Meeting the camera with piercing, calculating eyes, he replied, "Within one week, Fields Group will resolve all residential matters and complete the demolition." The scene cut from his striking face to Indigo Street—chaotic and ravaged. Residents were moving out, houses scattered and already torn apart by bulldozers, leaving behind ruins. Behind her sunglasses, Wendy's eyes—clear and glistening—jolted with shock. Her gaze locked onto the screen—specifically, the Moore Villa on Indigo Street. That villa would be demolished too. In the shaky footage, the reporter approached a fashionably dressed middle-aged woman. "Mrs. Scott, you're the owner of this villa. Is it true you've already agreed on terms with Fields Group?" That woman was none other than her stepmother, Autumn Scott. Autumn smiled at the camera. "Fields Group offered very generous relocation terms. We have no intention of opposing them. Today, we'll pack up and hand over the keys—we're ready for our new home." Wendy clutched the black-silk-wrapped urn in her arms, her knuckles turning white. A cold glint flashed in her eyes. Three years ago, she couldn't return to that home. But now, nothing would stop her from bringing her father back—to the Moore family home. That wasn't just a villa in a wealthy neighborhood—it was his final sanctuary. Wendy clenched her fists and strode quickly out of the airport, dragging her suitcase behind her. The June sky over Gaiara was a brilliant blue, cloudless and bright—so different from the icy, dark night when she had left the city. She tilted her face toward the scorching sun and gently touched the urn. —Three years, Dad. I've brought you home, little Wendy. A car horn blared. A white Polo pulled up, and a woman leaned out, waving excitedly. "Wendy! Over here!" A smile tugged at Wendy's lips as she hurried toward the car. As soon as she got in and removed her sunglasses, Yvonne started scolding her. "You're so uncool! Are we even friends? You vanished to Paris three years ago without a single word—left me lonely all these years!" At the mention of the past, Wendy lowered her eyes slightly, a flicker of sadness crossing her face. Then she smiled. "But I'm back now. Back then… I was just too heartbroken." Yvonne looked at her with pity. "You must've had it rough these past three years. You're the real Moore heiress, yet pushed out by your stepmother and stepsister. You've gotten so thin." She shook her head gently. "It wasn't that bad. My father probably anticipated trouble—he left a million in my account. I didn't realize until later. A million isn't much, but it covered my art studies in Paris. I took odd jobs, submitted illustrations to companies, earned decent royalties. Life wasn't too hard." Yvonne drove, adding, "By the way, you just got back and don't have a place to stay, right? I live alone in a two-bedroom rental. If you come, hehe, you can help me split the rent." Yvonne knew that if she didn't charge Wendy rent, Wendy would feel awkward staying. This way, Wendy wouldn't refuse. "Sure," Wendy said. "But when did Miss Perry start needing to rent? Spill it—family drama?" Yvonne glanced at the endless traffic jam ahead, pouting. "Ugh, don't ask. My mom's pushing me to date. I couldn't take it anymore, so I moved out. Worse, she cut off all my living expenses in a fit of anger. Can you believe it? Oh, and you haven't found a job yet, right?" "Yeah," Wendy frowned. "I'm not sure I'll fit into the domestic art industry." Yvonne raised an eyebrow proudly. "Hey, want a golden opportunity?" "If it's related to my field, that'd be great." "Of course! But you have to come with me to a dinner party tonight." She handed Wendy the invitation. Wendy glanced at it, then froze—her eyes fixed on the guest list: Chase Fields. Tonight, the CEO of Fields Group—the man who wanted to buy up Indigo Street—would attend this dinner? Wendy's brow furrowed. She asked cautiously, "Yvonne, do you know Chase Fields?" Yvonne blinked, giving her a strange look. "Wait, Wendy—are you into Chase Fields too? Let me tell you, he's not someone you mess with. Stand within ten meters of him, and you'll freeze solid! Most women in Gaiara who've tried to chase him ended up emotionally shattered. If you're looking for a guy, I'll set you up with my brother! He's a total sweetheart!" Yvonne shivered involuntarily, recalling her icy-cold uncle. Still… if Wendy and her uncle ever sparked something, she'd be *very* curious to see what her uncle looked like in love. Wendy's frown deepened. From that brief glimpse on TV, her gut instinct told her the man was dangerous. And sure enough, he was. But she had already lost everything. To protect the Moore Villa, no matter the cost, she *had* to win over Chase Fields!
