The palace trembles, but it’s not the Alpha King who will decide its fate.

Liora was bound to him by a bond older than law, thought to be a mate…until she realizes she is something far more dangerous: the living measure of truth and judgment.

When an ancient power awakens beneath the palace, the kingdom begins to unravel. Councils whisper, wolves watch, and the Alpha King faces a threat no army could fight, because the final verdict rests not in his hands, but hers.

Every choice she makes will shape the crown, the throne, and the bloodline that rules it. And the question looms; will she preserve it…or let judgment fall?

Some bonds protect. Some bonds bind. Some bonds judge.

And hers is the last.

The Choosing.
Chapter 1:The choosing Chapter one:The choosing (Liora Fate) The hall reeks of smoke, iron, and fear. Tonight is not about celebration. It is about being chosen… or being judged. Wolves crowd the chamber, alphas and warriors shoulder to shoulder, their voices low, guarded. Power coils thick in the air, heavy enough to taste. Everyone here pretends calm, but their bodies betray them, straightened spines, clenched jaws, hands never straying far from weapons. They are waiting. For him. The Alpha King enters without announcement, and the hall submits instantly. The shift is visceral, like the world tilting to accommodate his presence. Conversations die mid-breath. Even the fire along the walls burns lower, as if it knows better than to challenge him. He moves with unhurried authority, each step precise, controlled, inevitable. I do not look at his face. I already know better. “Bring them forward.” His voice carries effortlessly, deep and commanding, not raised, never needing to be. The words settle into bone, not ears. The girls beside me move first. One by one, they step into the light, daughters of powerful packs dressed in silk and jewels, their heads bowed just enough to signal obedience without surrender. This is what they were raised for. What they were promised. I am not. I should not even be here. My name was never meant to be spoken tonight. My bloodline is unremarkable. My dress is borrowed. I have survived by being unseen, by staying quiet, small, forgettable. Invisible by design. Until his gaze lifts. The moment his eyes find mine, something inside me breaks. It isn’t loud. There’s no warning,Just a sudden terrifying pull, tight and unrelenting, wrapping around my chest and dragging my breath from my lungs. "I look away first" My heart hammers so hard it hurts.i tell myself it means nothing, that fear is playing tricks on me, that this is just another mistake in a night full of them. “Stop.” The word cuts through the room The girl nearest him freezes mid-step. The Alpha King’s attention never leaves me. “You.” Every head turns. My legs won’t move.Heat floods my body, followed by a chill so sharp it makes me dizzy.A pressure coils low in my stomach, instinctive, unknown demanding. “Step forward.” Someone whispers my name behind me. A warning,a plea. The bond doesn’t wait. I step into the light. The Alpha King inhales sharply, like something has struck him without warning. His eyes darken, gold turning flowing and the air tightens until it feels alive. I stop a few feet away. Up close, he is overwhelming. Scarred hands, hard lines, power held in careful restraint. Standing before him feels like standing at the edge of something that could swallow me whole. “Name,” he says. “Liora,” I whisper. “Age.” “Nineteen.”i respond The room goes still. A low sound rumbles from his chest before he catches it. His jaw tightens. “Unmated?” “Yes.”i answer Understanding ripples through the hall, followed by whispers that sting worse than claws. "They know,What I am. What I’ve kept hidden. The Alpha King studies me, slow and unreadable. “Turn around.” I hesitate, then obey. He steps closer, too close. Heat presses against my back. His fingers lift a strand of my hair, exposing the back of my neck Unmarked. A dangerous sound escapes him. “She has no wolf,” someone says. “Your Majesty” “Enough.” The word slams down, final. I turn back, shaking. His gaze locks onto mine. “This one is mine,” he says. Gasps explode around us. My world narrows to his face, his voice, the weight of those words. Mine. “I don’t understand,” I whisper. His hand lifts my chin, forcing my eyes up. “You will,” he says quietly. “Soon.” I should feel safe, I suppose. But I don’t. The hall seems to constrict around me, walls pressing closer, whispering eyes watching, calculating. Some are shocked, others amused. A few sneer. My cheeks burn hotter than any fire ever could. I glance at him Rhydian,The Alpha King. Golden eyes piercing into mine, cold and unreadable, yet with an intensity that threatens to unravel me. I have no idea why he’s chosen me. I’m not beautiful, I’m not noble, I’m not powerful. I am ordinary. And yet, here I am, standing as the center of a storm I can’t escape. A guard gestures for me to follow. My legs tremble, each step echoing loudly in the hall as if mocking my fear. Behind me, the whispers continue, growing louder, punctuated by stifled laughter and shocked murmurs. “Steady, girl,” one of the older guards mutters, not unkindly. “Do exactly what he says. Don’t try to run. Not even in your thoughts.” I nod, though my hands are shaking. My chest feels tight, my stomach churning. This is not just fear. Something else coils low in my body, restless, insistent, impossible to ignore. The corridors of the palace are cold and silent. Torches flicker in wall sconces, throwing shadows that dance like predators. I notice the portraits of past kings lining the walls, faces proud, cruel, and stern. Do any of them stare at me now, judging me? The guard doesn’t answer when I wonder aloud if he knows what I am. He just keeps walking. I feel exposed. Vulnerable. We arrive at the chambers. The door swings open, heavy and cold. I step inside, my fingers brushing the walls to ground myself. He is already there, waiting. Always waiting. The Alpha King does not rise from his chair. He doesn’t need to. He dominates the space simply by being in it. His eyes flick to me and back to some unseen point beyond. “You are trembling,” he says, his voice low, measured. Not a question, a statement. “I… I’m not,” I stammer, though the lie tastes bitter in my mouth. “You are.” He leans forward, elbows resting on his knees, fingers steepled. “Do you understand what it means to be my mate?” “I...I think so,” I whisper. “It means… protection?” He shakes his head. A faint, almost imperceptible movement, but it makes my heart skip. “It means you belong to me. Not your family. Not your pack. Not your choice.” I feel as if the floor beneath me is gone. Belong....The word lodges in my chest like a stone. “Does that frighten you?” he asks. “Yes,” I admit, almost too quietly. He doesn’t smile. He doesn’t comfort. He doesn’t even acknowledge it further. Instead, he rises, and I see him in motion, all power and control, like a shadow stretching across the room. He stands close enough that the heat from his body brushes mine. “You will learn,” he says. “You will obey. You will survive. And you will be mine.” It starts subtly. A twitch, a tremor in my chest, a pull at the center of me that I cannot name. My hands curl into fists to stop them from shaking. My breath comes shallow, quick. He notices. Always notices. His gaze sharpens, and a flicker of something, possessive, dangerous crosses his eyes. “You feel it,” he states, not asks. “I....I don’t know,” I admit, but I do. I feel something warm, intrusive, binding, and I want to scream. My body responds to him in ways I don’t understand. “Good,” he says simply. “That means it’s real. That means you’re mine.” A loud crash from outside the chambers makes me jump. My eyes dart to the door. Guards rush past, whispers of an intruder, a challenge, a rival pack’s scout. My heart hammers. Rhydian doesn’t move, but the muscles in his shoulders tense. The Alpha King’s presence grows heavier, more dangerous, and I feel the bond flare in response, wrapping around me like a coil of fire and ice. “They won’t touch you,” he murmurs, almost to himself. Then his eyes lock onto mine, piercing. “But if they try, I will make them regret it forever.” I shiver. Fear, awe, and something more....something forbidden, curl together inside me. Night falls quickly. The moon is a pale silver orb in the sky, casting slivers of light through the tall windows. I try to sleep. I fail. He doesn’t leave. I don’t ask him to. I shouldn’t. My instincts tell me it’s dangerous to look at him, dangerous to think of him too long, dangerous to imagine what his claim means. And yet, I cannot stop. I hear him move, slow steps across the room. The sound of his boots against stone makes my stomach twist. He stops at the foot of my bed. His presence is overwhelming. I feel trapped between fear and fascination. “You think you can resist me?” His voice is soft but full of weight. “I… I don’t know,” I whisper. “You will learn,” he says. “Your body will learn. Your heart will learn. Your mind… may take longer, but it will obey in the end.” I bury my face in the sheets. I hate myself for wanting to feel his warmth, even when every rational thought screams that I should be afraid.
