The surface loomed close, the mining complex dead ahead. It was almost disappointingly small aboveground, but Alex knew most of the activity went on below the surface. Not only the mining itself, but all the facilities to house workers on site, storage, equipment. Everything stayed underground, shielded from Jupiter’s radiation.
Erica Lang, assigned to Alex as pilot, driver, and general assistant, brought the shuttle down on a landing pad, which at once began to sink, heavy doors closing over their heads. It descended into a large bay. Several more shuttles and larger craft stood in the huge cavern. Erica turned to Alex.
