Chapter One
*Ash*
Indifference could really be a good thing, possibly even a great thing – but sometimes, just sometimes it’s misplaced. “Misplaced” being a severe understatement when referring to a particular God of Smoke. The manner in which he could sip his coffee, place an online order & simultaneously tear off someone’s head without his expression shifting, could make anyone shiver – and that was just how he liked it.
Ash gets off on the fear he invokes, he welcomes the chase (and they always run), flirts with the danger of it & can antagonize even the most innocent to behave as if they come from the devil himself.
And so he finds himself in yet another pointless pursuit of an i***t he is about to smoke. He could barely remember what the guy did to deserve the spicey ending he was about to get, besides the offensive way in which he kept wailing about the “weirdo made of smoke” chasing him. The second he turned around and made eye contact with Ash, he decided that this was too boring, too unfulfilling a chase and he got split right in half as if by some magical blade, in the middle of the street, with people now screaming their heads off, and all our God of smoke could do was smile. They couldn’t see him anyway, not unless he wanted them to and they sure as hell didn’t deserve to. Oh well, at least it was entertaining.
For a God of Smoke you’d expect him to be all greys and blacks, but Ash looked as if he was meant to be the God of light who was accidentally assigned to the wrong department. With his nearly translucent eyes and white blonde hair, he looked like an angel – and if anyone ever said this to him, they’d be meeting with the angels not long after that.
“I’m assuming that was your doing? The banana split of a guy that the humans are now convinced was killed by a shadow? I mean, they’re not far off” Dex muttered, strolling into Ash’s room, stopping to stare out the window.
Dex was his only friend, and possibly using the word friend is an overreach, but he was the only one who stayed by Ash’s side through time, and was able to deal with his mercurial temper. It’d be better to settle on him being his only family.
“He was barely worth my time, at least he is providing some entertainment – his entire existence was a waste to begin with”
“I think you should try to have a little more class when you do what you do. They’ll never figure you out, but a God shouldn’t be wreaking havoc the way you do. Gods are meant to have mercy Ash” Dex muttered as he turned around, and looked straight at Ash, who really could not have given less f***s.
“Ridding their world of that miscreant was a mercy. Please leave my room, before I split you in two as well”
Sighing, Dex turned to leave, before closing the door, he looked at Ash once again “I worry about you, you seem darker each day that passes. I worry you’ll become the smoke and there’ll be nothing left”
It would be a lie to say he didn’t agree with what Dex just said. He knew he was spiraling, and he could do nothing to stop it. While he hated to admit it, he usually did have more class than creating a public ruckus the way he had, but he enjoyed it, he craved it. It was the only thing that distracted him from the growing emptiness inside him. He was a God, he didn’t need anything, didn’t need anyone. But even a God didn’t know everything, and even Ash had a past that had been waiting for hundreds of years to catch up with him.
