CHAPTER TWO

1915 Words
KAYLA ROCHELLE I ended up spending the night at my parent’s place, it was the most peaceful night I had in a long time, away from Keenan and his cheating spree. I woke the following day feeling refreshed, walked downstairs to the living room, and met my father. He was not around when I went to visit and his face beamed when his eyes landed on me, he was pleased to see me as it had been long since we last saw each other. “Good morning Dad, when did you come in?” I asked as I gave him a slight hug and he nodded his head. “Oh, morning Kayla, I came in late in the night and you were asleep so I didn’t want to bother you, is everything okay with you? You look gloomy and shrill.” He asked as he keenly looked at me and I looked away, I knew he wouldn't stop probing further until I told him the truth but I was not ready for that topic again. “I am good dad, it is just that sometimes life problems outweigh us and we don’t know what to do with the situation thrown at our faces,” I said and he nodded as he discreetly looked at me. He shrugged and then turned to look at me, the look on his face meant business. “You know you can always talk to us about what is bothering you. We are your parents and you are still our little girl, I spoke to your mom and she told me everything, I will speak to Keenan myself, maybe it is time for me to instill some sense into that thick skull of his, how long has this been going on?” He asked menacingly curious. “Dad, it is nothing, you shouldn’t be so concerned, I can take care of myself, I can handle him,” I added and truth be told, having my parents lecture Keenan on how to treat me and respect our marriage vows was the least, on my list, I didn't want him to view me as a fragile Luna that couldn't fight on her own but chose to let my parents do the job for me. “It seems like you need help and don’t worry, I will deal with Keenan, he must know that women are to be respected and that he can’t just mess with you and go scot-free.” He added with finality and I sighed defeatedly, I knew better than to argue with him as it seemed like he had already made that decision before he even spoke to me about it. After breakfast, he excused himself to go to a meeting and I was left with Mom, I helped her around with house chores and we chose to sit outside, to relax and catch up. “We can find you another mate if your husband is being thick-headed and rude," she said suddenly after a short silence between us and I sighed deeply, I knew she was not going to stop unless I agreed with her method of dealing with Keenan. “Mom, as I said before, I don’t want to talk about Keenan and I think I have overstayed my welcome here, I should probably head back home,” I said dismissively and she shrugged. As I later drove home that evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about Keenan. I kept wondering what could have gone wrong but got no answer to the numerous questions ringing in my mind. Everything was sweet and roses when we first got married and Keenan was always there for me, he showered me with love and made me feel so special but things changed drastically and I couldn't point out when and how. “You are back, I waited all night up for you but you didn’t come back home, where did you sleep last night?” Keenan asked as soon I walked into the house. “I thought I told you I would spend the night at my parents, what are you still doing here anyway? This is not your norm,” I commented sarcastically, clearly unbothered by his stupid tantrums and he smirked. “I know you are mad at me and we haven’t spoken in weeks now but I decided to wait up for you so we can talk about this, I don’t like the way things are between us, I miss us.” He said sweetly and I almost laughed but held myself back, what did he think I was? A foolish woman who didn't know what he was driving at? “Well, you only miss what you lost and I don’t think there is anything to talk about, I am going to bed.” I walked upstairs leaving him in the living room. “Don’t blame me for what happens next because I tried talking to you and you didn’t listen.” He shouted but I didn't even turn to look at him. “Nobody cares Keenan, what is the worst you can do that I haven’t seen yet, I know what you are capable of so go ahead and do your worst, I don’t give a damn." We had since separated sleeping rooms since he started being promiscuous, I didn't want to share a bed, our matrimonial bed with a beast like him, so I chose to sleep in the guest room and left the room for him, but something funny was that he was not remorseful or even sorry about his actions, he felt like what he did was right and I had no right to question his movements, after all, he was the Alpha and he deserved respect expressly from me, his wife. Sleeping around with the omega slaves was his new trend and he didn’t care about the pain he caused me or the place he practiced his promiscuity, all that mattered to him was that his heart, mind, and soul were satisfied, For the days that followed, we lived like strangers in one house with each one minding their own business but at least this time round, he didn’t bring omega slaves in his room to have s*x with them. Two weeks later, the council of elders including my parents, Alpha Keenan and I held a meeting at the grand hall to discuss the general security of the pack and the new threats to the pack. “I have called you here because there is something that has been going on that I think we should all discuss and look for a way forward, I know we have all felt the tension, and I have intel that our rival pack is planning to attack us and we must find a way of dealing with that.” Alpha Keenan spoke and everyone nodded in agreement, murmuring amongst themselves, u hated being in the same room with him but I had to fulfill my duty as the Luna. “We must plant our spies in that pack and also among the humans because you can never be so sure about what their plan is, so I need volunteers for this task, I know it is not an easy task but I didn’t have a pack to run, I would have gone myself, it is a matter of securing our pack and making sure we stay together, remember; a family that works together stays together.” He added and my father's hand shot up, I was confused but remained still to see what he had to say. “I think we can do it; my wife and I have been here long enough to handle this kind of situation and therefore we volunteer to represent our pack in this honored duty.” He added without evening glancing at me, it was like he was prepared for that. “No, you can’t do that Dad, that is not your work, this needs someone who is well trained and ready for anything that might come their way, as your Luna, I forbid you to go,” I said with finality but her Mom was quick to stop me and support dad. "What were they up to?" I kept asking myself. “I know you think we are too old for this kind of work but I beg to differ with you, in my defense, we are older and wiser, which makes us the perfect combo for this kind of job.” She said and the crowd agreed with her, I had no otherwise than let them perform the hard task. After the meeting that evening, I went home troubled, as we were having dinner at our place, Keenan looked up at me and cleared his throat before he spoke, “Why were so defensive about your parents going to spy on our rival pack, you don’t think they can uphold that task, do you?” “You and I both know that my parents are not up to the task but you still allowed them to go, what kind of a human being are you? What if they get discovered and are killed is that what you want, for me to lose my parents?” I questioned pissed but he shrugged it off, he had more faith in them than I did, and that only made it worse, I couldn't stop imagining what his plans were. “I think you misunderstood me, my love, don’t forget your father trained me, he is the reason I am the way I am today and I would never give him less credit because I know what he is capable of, stop being paranoid and give them the credit they deserve, I am sure they will perform well on this task and hopefully, it will help us win this war.” “Okay, if something happens to them, I will blame you but for now let me have some little faith because I trust my father, I am not yet sure about my mother though because she is not a warrior, I am worried about her.” “Your problem is that you worry so much about people who can take care of themselves instead of worrying about yourself, you have so much going on in your life right now, I suggest you stick to training the young wolves because that is what you do best.” He said jokingly and I stared at him menacingly, all I wanted was to pounce on him and rip off his eyes but he was stronger than me and I knew I had to be vigilant about what I did next. “I will let that slide for now Keenan, I can’t blame you, I blame your parents for raising such an impetuous, self-centered son of a b***h, I am going to bed and feel free to sleep around with those filthy omega slaves of yours as you wish, you will one day reap what you sow," I said with a smirk on my face then threw the napkin on his face and walked out on him, he laughed it off like the maniac he was but it didn't bother me. What he didn’t know was that I had been training hard for the day I would take him down and resume as the alpha of the Silver Dawn Pack, that was my right and exactly what I deserved after all he had put me through.
