Chapter 7: The Reckoning

759 Words
The boardroom was dead silent. Siena stood at the head of the table, her expression unreadable. Behind her, the floor-to-ceiling windows framed the city in sharp, unforgiving light. The rain from the night before had dried, but the storm inside her hadn’t. Around the table sat the faces she had once trusted: Paul, Harriet, Marc. No assistants, no distractions, just them, and the truth. “I called this emergency session,” Siena began, “because Kade Industries leaks. Someone inside this room is actively working with ValeCorp. Someone who tried to sell this company out from under me from under my father.” Paul shifted uncomfortably, Harriet glanced at her watch, and Marc cleared his throat. Siena pressed a button on her tablet. The speakers crackled to life. Paul’s voice: “Once Vale takes over, we’ll be free of her. Let her think Adrian’s the hero.” Every board member froze. Then the second voice came. Harriet: “The vote’s just a formality. She’ll be out before she sees it coming.” Silence. Siena let it hang like a blade over their heads. Paul’s face went pale. Harriet said nothing, but her eyes narrowed. No denial, no apology. “You were going to use Adrian to distract me,” Siena said, voice low and lethal. “While you sold my company to my father’s enemy behind my back.” Paul stood. “You don’t have proof” “I don’t need it,” she snapped, “Because I have the shares.” She turned, and the door opened. Adrian walked in. The board stirred, Confused and Alarmed. Siena continued: “Last night, Adrian transferred his entire investment stake to me silent shares he acquired weeks ago, before the attempted sabotage. Combined with my family’s trust shares, I now hold majority control.” Paul sat back down, slowly. So did Harriet “You were counting on me being blind,” Siena said, “But I was paying attention. And now you’re done.” Adrian handed her a manila envelope. Inside were signed confessions from two lower-level execs, both quietly tied to Harriet and Paul’s private accounts. Siena dropped them on the table. “You’ll both resign by morning or I’ll bury you in court.” No one spoke. Siena turned to Adrian. “Leave us.” He hesitated, then left without a word. Later That Night – Kade Estate Her father sat by the window now, more lucid than he’d been in weeks. She’d updated him quietly on everything. “I should have done this years ago,” he rasped, “Cleaned house before it bled us dry.” Siena knelt beside him.”Then let me do it now.” He nodded, a hint of pride behind his tired eyes. “You already have.” They sat in silence for a long time. Adrian’s Penthouse – Two Days Later He was packing when she showed up. A single duffel. No press, no drama, just disappearance. “You’re leaving?” she asked. Adrian looked up. “You made it clear I was part of the problem.” Siena stepped closer. “You were, but you also helped fix it.” He shrugged. “Didn’t expect forgiveness.” She hesitated. “I don’t have forgiveness,” she said. “But I have a future, and if I’ve learned anything, it’s that we can’t build one while still bleeding from the past.” Adrian met her eyes. “So what does that mean?” “It means, “ She exhaled. “I’m not asking you to stay, but I’m not asking you to go either.” A pause. He walked toward her. “Siena” She kissed him. Not desperate like before, not because she needed saving because she chose to. And when she pulled back, she whispered, “No more lies, no more secrets.” He nodded, “Only truth.” Siena stepped back. “Then let’s start over, Clean.” “No dynasties, no revenge.” She smiled. “Just us.” Final Scene – Press Conference, Kade Tower Siena stood at the podium, confident and poised. “To those who said Kade Industries was finished, you were wrong,” she said. “We’re not rebuilding. We’re reborn under new leadership. And under new rules.” Flashes Applause Questions. Adrian watched from the crowd, half-hidden in the back, hands in his pockets, eyes on her. This time, he wasn’t the shadow behind the curtain. He was just the man who fell in love with a woman who refused to break.
