Chapter 1: The Fall of Kade
The glass walls of Kade Industries' executive tower gleamed under the morning sun, casting fractured reflections across the concrete jungle of the city. But inside, the atmosphere was anything but bright.
Siena Kade stood at the head of the boardroom table, her sharp heels silent on the marble floor. The room was filled with familiar faces, investors, board members, former allies now wearing looks of doubt, skepticism, and in some cases betrayal.
Her voice didn’t shake. “If we divest from the biotech merger now, we’ll still have a chance to stabilize cash flow before the end of the quarter.”
An older board member leaned back, steepling his fingers. “You’re not your father, Siena.”
A low murmur rippled through the room.
Siena’s jaw tightened. “You’re right. I’m not. But unlike him, I’m not ignoring the red flags bleeding from every report on this table.”
The silence was heavy. She could feel their resistance like a physical weight pressing against her.
Her father, Charles Kade, once the golden name in tech, hadn’t been seen publicly in over a month. Whispers of illness circulated. Rumors of bankruptcy danced in boardrooms across the city, and vultures were circling.
Especially Dorian Vale.
Siena didn’t have to check the news to know ValeCorp’s stock was rising directly proportional to her company’s fall. Dorian had always wanted Kade Industries under his control. He had tried once before, fifteen years ago, a move Siena only knew about in vague family whispers. Back then, her father had crushed the attempt, but not without cost.
This time, Dorian was playing the long game.
After the meeting, Siena returned to her office, heart pounding. Her assistant, Lila, trailed behind her with a tablet in hand.
“You’ve got a lunch meeting today. Private club. Name just says ‘A. Vale.”
Siena paused. Her brows knit.
“A… Vale?”
Lila shrugged. “No first name. But I double-checked. They’re expecting you.”
Siena’s stomach turned. She knew the Vales were circling but this soon? It felt like a trap. Or a challenge.
“Confirm it. I’ll be there,” she said coolly, even as her mind raced.
As she walked toward the elevator, a single thought echoed in her mind:
If Dorian Vale thinks he can send one of his people to toy with me, he’s about to find out he underestimated the wrong daughter.
Hours Later – The Private Club, Midtown
The dining room was sleek and quiet, draped in soft jazz and moneyed silence. Siena stepped in wearing a steel-gray dress that matched her resolve, her heels tapping confidently on the polished floor.
And then she saw him.
Seated in a leather booth by the window, with sunlight catching the sharp angle of his jaw and the deep green of his eyes, was Adrian Vale, not Dorian, Adrian.
She recognized him instantly as the estranged son of her father’s enemy. The black sheep of the Vale dynasty, Investor, Visionary. Rumor had it he’d turned down a seat on his father’s board twice.
He stood as she approached, offering a hand. “Siena Kade.”
His voice was smooth, like aged whiskey, but his smile held something unreadable, something between mischief and challenge.
Siena didn't take his hand. “I expected a vulture, not a prince.”
Adrian chuckled. “I’m just here for lunch and maybe to stop a war.”
She narrowed her eyes. “You’ll need more than charm to stop this one.”
He gestured to the seat opposite him. “Then let’s start with honesty.”
As Siena slid into the booth, her heart pounded for the second time that day, but this time, it wasn’t from fear.
It was from the certainty that her life was about to change and not just her life, Everything.
