CHAPTER 20: CONFESSION WITHOUT WORDS

414 Words
Damien’s hand was still at the back of Elias’s neck, guarding the secret. The office was quiet except for their breathing. Damien’s eyes locked on Elias’s. Dark. Intense. Like he’d been holding something back for a long time. Elias didn’t look away. Didn’t flinch. Control. Choice. The air between them went thick. Heavy. One more inch and— Damien’s jaw ticked. He exhaled hard through his nose. Then he pulled back just enough. His hand slid from Elias’s neck to his shoulder, steadying him. “Not like this,” Damien said. Voice rough. Restrained. “Not when you’re still learning control. When I kiss you, Elias, it’ll be because you chose it with a clear head. Not because the tension told you to.” Elias’s chest rose and fell fast. “But I did choose—” “I know,” Damien cut him off gently. Thumb brushing his shoulder. “And that’s why I’m stopping. Because you’re mine, and mine deserve better than rushed. You deserve deliberate.” He pressed his forehead to Elias’s one more time. “We stop here. For now. That’s control too.” Elias closed his eyes. The tension didn’t break. It just changed. From fire to something slower. Deeper. Waiting. 1:03 AM. Elias couldn’t sleep. The realization from last night wouldn’t shut up. _I don’t want the contract to end. I like him._ He sat up. Key on his finger caught the moonlight. Damien’s office door was open. Light on. Always open now. Rule 12. Elias didn’t knock. He walked down the hallway barefoot. Stopped in the doorway. Damien was at his desk. Tie loose. Jacket off. Reading something, but his eyes weren’t moving. He knew Elias was there. Elias didn’t speak. Didn’t explain. He just walked in, crossed the room, and sat down on the floor. Back against the side of Damien’s desk. Knees pulled up. Like he did as a kid during storms. Silence. Damien set his pen down. Didn’t ask what was wrong. Didn’t tell him to go to bed. He just slid his chair back a few inches. Then his hand dropped down. Rested on top of Elias’s head. Heavy. Warm. Grounding. No words. For 10 minutes. Elias closed his eyes. Leaned into the touch. That was the whole confession. No words needed. Damien’s thumb brushed his hair once. “I know,” he said quietly. “You don’t have to say it.” Elias nodded against his knee. Still no words. Just breathing.
