Chapter 5

1341 Words
Jaclyn I watched Killian and his father storm off down the hall and a door slam shut. I flinched at the sound, I remember all too clearly my brother doing that a lot when I stopped talking. He never could understand why I just stopped, even the doctor said there was nothing wrong with my voice. Mrs. Morris begins serving dinner as if nothing happened, the rest follow along. I put my hands in my lap, I wish Raphael was with me. I missed him so badly, I’ve never been away from him this long or been somewhere he wasn’t allowed to come with me. “So . . .” one of Killian's sisters began. I look up at her, she sits in front of me, her eyes are blue but not as dark as Killian's, her hair isn't as dark as his either. “I'm Rosetta, and this is my mate Steven” She says holding her hand out. I bite my lip and shake her hand. “I'm Kasey,” a brown eyed, light brown hair girl sitting next to Rosetta says. “And I'm Katie!” a little girl who looks a lot like Killian says. I shake all of their hands. “He wasn't joking when he said you were shy was he?” Mrs. Morris says, giving her a plate of noodles. “Mom leave her alone please, she's already scared enough.” Kasey says grabbing at the plate her mother hands her. Something pulls at my heart, my mom and I weren't super close. I was a daddy's girl. I sometimes wondered if she was still alive would we be closer? “Why did daddy get mad that Kills picked a mute mate?” Katie asks, breaking the awkward tension. The family gasped at her, I, myself was curious about it too, Adrian looks at me with wide eyes as Mrs. Morris tells her daughter that wasn't a topic they should talk about at the table. ‘It's okay, Mrs. Morris I, too want to know why?’ Adrian quickly tells everyone what I have signed. Rosetta bites her lip and sighed, “um well -” she cuts off. “Killian's father has always been hard on him, he spent years making this pack fears and powerful along with strong and respected.”  Mrs. Morris says.  I nod along with what she is saying. “Now, he has picked a mute mate, people might start saying that Luna is going to make the pack weak and we might start getting attacked.” ‘I might not talk but I would never do anything to this pack, I won't send people to attack.’ Adrian explains. “I wish, I could believe that, I really do but after Killian said that he made you leave your son behind, I feel like you might use him to get revenge.” Rosetta gasped and placed a hand on her belly. I looked at Adrian ‘don't say anything out loud but ask if she is pregnant’ I say pointing at Rosetta. Adrian lends over and whispers at her, her eyes go widen. “How did you know I haven't told anyone!” ‘Look Mrs. Morris yes I'm upset with Killian but I chose to get picked, for years I have hidden behind my son telling other Alphas and their men that I had been claimed and had Raphael myself but I finally thought that Raphael who like a dad, maybe a brother or sister, a family outside of my brother and I’ “What you're saying is that Raphael the boy isn't your real son?” ‘He is in ways but by blood he isn't. I still love him. I've raised him since he was one, if you meet him, you'd love him. He's so sweet and kind and caring.’ I felt tears come to my eyes, ‘family is very important.’ She smiles. Rosetta gets up “mom there's something I need to tell-” she gets cut off as a door slams open them close. Killian appears, “Jaclyn I'll take you home.” he says “Kills want there's something I'd -” Rosetta tries again but Killian cuts her off. “Not now, father wants her out of our house now.” “I'd like to say if I'm pregnant.” she finishes like Killian never said anything. I smile. I was right, before my mom died she was going to have another baby, she would always put a hand to her belly when something scared her or the baby kicked. Mom wanted to keep it a surprise, so we never found out what the baby was going to be. Killian stops walking, he looks Steven dead in the eyes, and says; “you better treat her right you I'll come after you myself.” Rosetta laughs at him but Killian doesn't smile; he continues to stare at Steven, Rosetta raises an eyebrow. “Of course I'll treat her right.” Killian nods and then looks at me “we're leaving now,” I nod and get up, Adrian gets up along with me. “Thank you so much for dinner Luna Morris.” Mrs. Morris sighs as we walk out, “I'll take her home Adrian go be with your mate.” “Of course sir,” Adrian said, bowing his head in respect. Killian sighs as he watches Adrian walk off, he then traced into his back pocket and pulled out a small notebook and pen. “Carry this around with you.” I take it from him to be careful not to touch any skin. The difference between humans and werewolves was that we picked mates, almost like humans but we have to love the person we chose as a mate for life even if we know longer love each other we can't leave or find someone else. If your mate dies that's the only time you can pick a new mate if the Supernatural High Court says you can. If not you're stuck that way, where you can't find someone else, most people who lose their mates run off to live among the humans. Once you run away from a pack you're not safe, anything can attack you. And if you get caught you're imprisoned the High Court has rules and laws, ones you better not break. Which is probably why my parents had been murdered because people didn’t believe that the High Court should have let my parents live. We don't talk, as we walk I look at the dark sky. The white moon hangs low in the sky, white little stars all around it. It was one of those nights where Raphael and I would bring blankets out into the back yard and look up at the stars until I fell asleep, then Raphael would get Isaiah and he'd carry me up to bed. I love these nights. I wouldn't get nightmares, on peaceful nights. I thought about what I'm going to have to do to keep the nightmares away tonight to keep Killian pack from knowing. Why does your sister call you Kills? I wrote in the notebook. It was a question I have been sitting on all night. I don't show him what I wrote, since we had made the short distance to his home to the pack house. I knew he wouldn't want me to be around him. Now that I know he only chose to find a mate because of his father. Putting the notebook in my back pocket I follow him through the door and up the stairs. “If you need anything, speak now or don't leave until morning.” Killian says when we reach the door. I don't say anything or write anything. I just walked in the room and slammed the door in his face. He growls under his breath but doesn't try to come in.
