Chapter 4

Killian I drove in silence not bothering with talking since Jaclyn doesn't speak. She stares out the window, tears slide down her cheeks and I try hard not to tell her I was sorry. My dad spent many years before me making sure our pack was the most feared, I couldn't just take over and make it soft. He'd kill me, he spent all my life telling me never to become soft, it's hard to do when you have two older sisters and a baby sister. My oldest sister Rosetta has been chosen as an Alpha's mate. My second oldest sister Kasey has yet to get chosen, that's all she talks about is finding the right person who is going to love you forever. Then there's me, only choosing a mate to please his father. And then sweet little Katie who's only 12 wants to find a mate like the rest of us. She has many years before that time comes, I love her little heart. Wanting to be like us, hopefully the guy treats her well or I will kill him.  We pulled into the pack house, I wasn't ready to move her into my personal house with my family. I don’t know how my father is going to react to her being a mute.  “We're here,” I said as I opened my door. She doesn't say anything to me, barely even looks my way, her eyes are bloodshot but she has stopped crying. Good I didn't want to have to tell my father about the kid. He’ll be furious. Adrian met us at the door, he took Jaclyn's things and room them up to her room without a word. I don't follow them to her room at the top of the room, a room that was mine when I was too busy with Alpha duties. I didn't go to bed until late. I only used it twice. I go to my office, my father there already looking over some paperwork. “Ah son your home.”  My father says as a way of greetings. “Did you find a mate?” I sat down in the chair in front of him. “Yes, she's upstairs getting settled in” “Very good choice to keep her far away from you.” I sighed I would love to have her closer of course I couldn't tell him that. I nod at his words so he knew I was listening. I knew putting her in the pack house was smart, away from my father’s judgmental stare.  “Your mother and sisters want to meet her as soon as possible so invite her to dinner tonight.” My father dismisses me. “Yes sir,” I say as I leave the room. “Alpha,” Adrian says “Tell Jaclyn that she has been invited to dinner with my family.” I growled, so mad that my father can not be nice not once in his life, this would be his daughter in law, but he doesn’t even bother to care.  “Of course sir,” Adrian says bowing his head in respect. I wanted to growl at him for doing that, I hated that no one could treat me as an equal. I had to be shown respect cause I was the boss. Something my father was a jerk about anyone who didn’t respect the Alpha slept in the jail for a week with no food or water.  After Adrian did back up the stairs I headed to my house, Katie was sitting in the living room watching TV, when I walked in. “Kills!” She yelled. She couldn't say Killian when she started talking so she called me Kills for short and now the name has stuck. “Killian is that you?” My mother called from the kitchen. “Yes mom” I say as I join her with Katie in my arms. My mother smiled at me and her blue eyes softened when she saw us. “Did you find the perfect girl?” “I found one, mom she's shy doesn't talk at all but she's a fighter, soft and caring but hard as ice.” “Sounds familiar.” My mom said. “Yeah, she'll be joining us for dinner tonight. I'm having Adrian come to since I don't speak sign language.” “That girl wasn't abused was she?” My mom asked, looking at me with wide eyes. “No no of course not mom it's just from what her brother said is she went mute when her parents and twin sister died in a Rouge attack a few years earlier.” “That poor girl.” “Mom I need to tell you something,” I say I can't hide this from her. ******** At dinner my mother couldn't even look at me, I understand why but she didn't need to show it. I was already mad at myself, my father didn't know what was going on but he could tell there was tension between us. Rosetta and her mate visited us a couple of days ago and today was her last day. Kasey wouldn't stop staring at Jaclyn. Jaclyn wouldn't meet anyone's eyes and I could tell she was uncomfortable. Katie, who doesn't know much about Jaclyn, tries talking to her but that just makes Jaclyn hide behind me. Which I think is cute, that even if she doesn’t trust me yet she still trusts me enough to shield her from my family.  “Dinners ready,” my mother says from the kitchen. Jaclyn walks into the kitchen Adrian follows right behind her. “Need any help Mrs. Morris?” Adrian asked after Jaclyn made a few hand movements. “Yes I could Jaclyn would you please put these on the table?” A few hand movements and Adrian translates for her. “ Yes ma'am.” My mom smiles sadly after Jaclyn turned her back. Jaclyn sets the table Rosetta and her mate Steven sit at the table. Kasey sits down next to her sister, Katie sits next to me as I sit down across from Steven, Jaclyn sits down across from Rosetta right next to me with Adrian next to him, my father at the head of the table, and my mother on his side. I stand up from my seat once everyone has sat down and gotten food. “Everyone I’d like you to meet my mate Jaclyn Grey.” Jaclyn blushes and does a small wave, I looked at Adrian to see if she had actually said anything. He shakes his head. “Grey?” My father asked. “As in Isaiah and Jaclyn Grey from the pack right next to us?” “Yes,” I say sitting back down. “You went from pack to pack and chose a girl from next door?” My father growled “Yes, I chose Jaclyn because she knows how to run a pack, she was top fighter in her rank and part of the warriors.” I yelled “I picked her cause she knew what she was doing to be getting into and because she's strong.” “There's a lot of other she-wolves you could have chosen from that could do her job, but no you had to be good for the one that didn't talk! A freak!” My father growls at me, making Jaclyn hide in her seat.  That's when I snapped “I chose her for many different reasons, I don't care if she doesn't speak better for no arguments, no talking back, and no smart ass remarks!” I yelled. “I watched her slap another she-wolf for calling her some names in front of her Alpha and me, not caring that she would get in trouble, not only that she beat the crap out of her later, cause she came back saying more lies!” “Boys!” My mom yelled as soon as I was done. “If you're going to argue, leave, we have guests. Plus frankly I don't want to hear it!” “My office now!” My father yelled at me.
