We tiptoed out of the room. By then, it was late, the house dark, silent. I had my ears up, listening. I heard two people on an upper floor, both snoring. There was one more in the rear of the house. It was a man. I could smell him. He was watching TV. “Coast is clear,” I said. The three of us exhaled in unison, then made our way to the front of the house. My head was buzzing.
