Devica PART 7
Nephrite stayed at the hotel till the afternoon the next day. Marcus accompanied him to the hospital for examination. After that, they went to the police station to follow up regarding the incident.
But they only received bad news.
They did not have enough evidence to prove that Queen Stuart was the mastermind of the incident last night.
“We were not able to gather enough evidence,” the chief discussed the matter apologetically. “Despite having you, Marcus, as a witness, we did not have enough proof to solidify your statement.”
“Aside from that,” the chief switched his gaze to the both of them with a conflicted expression, “No one from the suspects admits, involves, nor pointed Miss Stuart as part of the conflicts last night.“
Nephrite wanted to explain but he kept his mouth shut. After all, he could only base it on the vessel’s memory. As for what actually happened last night, only Marcus witnessed Queen talking with the dealer.
Still, why was everyone so tight-lipped?
Nephrite did not notice Marcus’ perturbed expression.
After the police got Nephrite’s statement, Marcus offered to drive him home.
Nephrite contemplated. Considering that his interaction with Marcus helped change the flow…
“Alright. Sorry to trouble you.” Nephrite smiled at Marcus.
“You’re not causing trouble.”
_________
Nephrite gaze at the scenery outside the window. The lights of the other vehicles, buildings, and other establishments as they travel under the dark night sky gave off a psychedelic vibe. Entrancing, hypnotic.
Sometimes, Nephrite wondered about all the amazing things he was experiencing since he became a hunter.
Flowing against time was the usual way of humans.
Fighting against age, fighting the struggles in life.
But now he was moving freely in a place without the concept of time.
Human’s faces and age in the Core had long been frozen in time the moment you step inside.
Nephrite’s vessel right now… Raven struggled so much. The only mistake he made was one—Trust the wrong people. And yet, that caused him all the chances to get a better life.
Just like that, he suffered until the end of his life.
“Is there something bothering you?”
Nephrite turned his head in Marcus’ direction. “Ah, sorry about that,” he smiled awkwardly. “Sorry for spacing out.”
“It’s fine. I’m just worried. It’s a traumatic experience after all,” he paused. “I’m surprised you recognized me last night.”
Nephrite grinned, “I have a good memory.”
Marcus smiled, “Is that so? Too bad.”
“Why?”
Marcus gave him a flicking glance, “I thought I left an impression.”
Nephrite blinked. Did I mishear him?
But Marcus never said anything after that until Nephrite reached home.
Nephrite had no time to contemplate it, after all, he needed to prepare for his university entrance exam.
Deneb University was not one of the most prestigious schools but the learning environment was good. The campus was in the ‘Top 5 eco-friendly university’ ranking in the whole country. They also offer their programs with technologically advanced facilities.
Aside from that, as its name suggested, University Belt was where most universities were located. That includes the university Cain and Jude currently attending.
Nephrite knew those twins were plotting their best to attack him soon so it’s best to observe slowly.
Speaking of, he suddenly remembered his promise to treat Camilla and Vio.
________
The Wezel Air-Viewing Garden Restaurant in the City Centre was famous for its beautiful architecture, majestic view from the air garden—a beautiful C-shaped glass-walled restaurant at the top of the Wezel building. The interior was very similar to a greenhouse, with beautiful flowering shrubs, hanging plants, and vines carefully placed and taken care of. Aside from that, it boasts great food and professional service. It was very popular with the elites of Deneb City.
Neither Nephrite nor Raven would ever imagine being able to dine in such a high-class restaurant.
He, Camilla, and Vio bowed once again on Camilla’s uncle as they thanked him for giving a reservation slot from their business partner.
Camilla’s uncle waved his hand. “It's alright. Mr. Dylan doesn’t like wasting time and effort. But we had to shift to another place due to some urgent business matters. So just enjoy the meal with your friends.”
After a bit more flattery, he excused himself.
Nephrite turned to Camilla and Vio, smiled at them, embarrassed. “I promise to treat both of you into a meal and yet, here I am, included in this grace.”
“What are you talking about? It’s a lifetime chance! We received it while you’re with us, it means all three of us got it with our luck,” Camilla cheered him on.
“Aside from that, if you did not invite us out today, it’s impossible for us to experience it.” Vio flung his arm on Raven’s shoulder, “So everything is fine. If you still insist on treating us, let’s do it next time, yeah?”
Camilla chuckled before leading the way inside the building. “Ain’t Uncle’s boss generous? Before, he also gave us a reservation and our family spent a vacation in a resort.”
“Why aren’t all company superiors like that?” Vio sighed.
Nephrite chuckled, “If every company bosses were like Camilla’s uncle, what’s the need for people to work? Anyway, since you already said it’s our luck to be here so let’s enjoy it!
Their table had the best view of the City Center’s skyline. Camilla can’t help but sigh in admiration.
“It’s so beautiful! Imagine if we went here at night?”
“There’s a way to see the night skyline,” Vio flicked his fingers, “Let’s eat slowly. Dragged our speed until the sunsets!”
Nephrite chuckled. This fellow’s brain sure worked creatively.
Vio glared at him, “Raven! Why are you laughing?”
Suppressing her laugh, Camilla put her index finger on her lips. “Alright, alright you, two. Let’s not get the other guests' attention, shall we?”
The reservation happened to be a full-course meal. Nephrite smiled. It seems like the boss was a thoughtful person. Having a good meal before a meeting or talking about a deal sure can give anyone a good mood.
