As they stood before me, I could see the hate in their eyes. I looked at them calmly and had the guards chain them to chairs. They were going to be here for a while.
“You know, I thought that when you left you would be smart enough to not come back. Why did you come back?” I ask.
Eve was the first to speak, “We had things we needed to do.”
I let out a sigh. “So killing people is now what you feel you need to do?”
Eve smiled at me; it was a sick twisted smile. “We enjoyed the killing part, but that was just part of it.”
“Stop playing games and tell me all of it, Eve. I want the whole truth.” I say getting annoyed.
She looks at Anne who gives her a nod.
“Well,” she begins. “Where to start. When we managed to escape the dungeon you had us thrown into, we left. We went to the South Eastern Realm and were there for quite some time. But life got boring and we wanted more. Then the greatest thing happened. We were approached by some witches.” She stopped speaking for a moment.
Anne continued where Eve had stopped. “They came to us and gave us an offer. If we kept you distracted they would help us get rid of you.”
I look at them both sorrow in my heart. “What did I do to make you hate me so much?”
Eve and Anne look at each other. “Father loved you more than any of us. Then he died and practically took our mother with him. Our parents were gone, and you refused to let us do what we wanted. We didn't want to focus on our obligations. We wanted to take our mind off their deaths.” Anne says angrily.
I stand up extremely upset. “You both were acting like spoiled brats. I made you learn your royal duties to help distract you from the pain. I did the same thing father did to me. He made me learn what my obligations would be. What ruling means. Now because of what you have done, I have to do something I've never wanted to.” I scream at them.
Eve looks at me and I see it the fear come into her eyes. “What do you mean Brena?”
“I'm sentencing you both to death,” I say calmly sitting back down.
Anne and Eve look at one another. Then it begins. They both start begging, but its Eve that catches my attention.
“Brena wait, you can't. What if I tell you what the witches are planning?” She says pleadingly.
I look at her, “You had better tell me anyway.” I say in a deathly whisper.
Her eyes fill with tears, and the truth comes out. “They wanted us to distract you to keep you from finding the other princesses. They said that if we could keep you from leaving until you were twenty-three then they would get rid of you. They told us if we were brave enough to do it ourselves...”
Anne says after her, “We don't know why they don't want you and all the others meeting up. Whatever the reason is though, it’s important. They even have a hunter currently hunting one of the Princesses.”
I look at them both, “Anything else I should know?”
They both shake their heads. I look at the guard and give him a nod. He comes up to them both and cuts off Anne's head. Eve gets out a scream before she too loses her head.
The servants clean up the bodies and the room, as I go into my bedroom. I throw myself on the bed and cry. As much as I wanted to show them mercy. Their crimes were too great.
They had to pay for what they had done. Now they had, and it broke my heart. The first time I have ever had to execute someone, and it ends up being my sisters.
The next few weeks were hard for me. I cried myself to sleep every night. I had no family left now. I was alone.
Several months passed by and I constantly wondered how Eric was getting along. My worry that something had gone wrong growing. Especially knowing there was a hunter out there.
I wished with all my might he would return home soon. Little did I know my wish would be answered...
