Chapter Seven: Don't Touch the Embers

I sat in my throne room waiting around for something good to happen. The only exciting news I had received was from the blacksmith and carpenter. They had completed my carriage and it was ready to use.
Now there would be nothing stopping me from joining Eric once he returned. I sat there wishing he would. I must have wished upon the right star because not long after, the doors opened.
Eric, a woman, and someone I recognized as the guard that had been forced to leave entered the room. I smile and get up out of my throne. Before I can speak the woman says, “Brena! It's me Lilly, well, Snow!”
I get happy and before I can stop her, she throws her arms around me. She lets go quickly; tears fall from my eyes.
She looks at me and she knows. “Oh, no Brena.” She says and her eyes begin to water. I wipe my tears away and smile at her.
“It's okay Lilly. I'm alright.” I tell her trying to be brave.
Eric comes up to us both. “Miss me, Brena?” I smile.
“It was getting boring without you here, but I have interesting news for you,” I tell him. I sit on my throne and they all sit near me.
Lilly introduces the other man as Brelear. I nod to him.
“So Brena what is it you have news of?” Eric asks.
I look at him then at Lilly. “Before we get to that I must know, what did you end up with Lilly? Is it bad?”
She clicks her tongue and then answers, “Well, I can't grow old. If I go into the sun I light on fire. My senses are heightened, and I am physically faster and stronger.”
I look at her, “So aside from the sun what's the downside?”
“To survive I have to drink the blood of humans.” She says carefully watching my reactions.
My face goes pale, and my eyes start to water. “What about animal blood?”
She shakes her head, “It makes me sick. I do however have another nifty little trick.”
She gives me a grin I can only describe as wicked. “Brelear here now has all my ailments except one. He can drink animal blood to survive. If I drain someone then give them my blood, they change into what I am.”
I nod and think for a moment before I reply, “I guess that would be useful if you needed an army of superpowered humans.”
She looks at me, I can see how serious she is. “Brena, we may need one. The witches are getting more powerful. As our curses get stronger, their powers grow.”
I let out a gasp and then I realize why they needed me distracted.
“My sisters returned. They were causing all kinds of chaos. The witches told them to keep me distracted. Throw my kingdom into chaos and force me to stay here. They wanted to prevent me from finding the other Princesses. Something about us all getting together worries them.” I reveal to her and Eric.
Eric looks at us both. “It's because they know how strong you all are when you're together. Especially if we all find our true loves. They know that as soon as our curses are broken, we will come for them.”
I nod agreeing with him. We would go after them. All of us would do what we needed to destroy them all. We continue talking and discussing things.
“You all must be tired from your journey. Why don't you all rest? I'll have rooms made up for you Lilly and Brelear. Eric your room is still the same.” I tell them all.
They thank me and I say goodnight and go to bed.
We had decided that the next night since Lilly and Brelear had to be asleep during the day that we would plan.
Tomorrow we would decide where we would head first. As I lay in bed, I wondered to myself who we would find next...
