He pushed her to the wall in the roughest manner of a beast, his eyes morphing into darker shades with control draining out of them.
Staring at her like she would be the only person he will ever see. He let out a deep growl as he advanced towards her, his hand brushing aside the hair blocking his way to a meal.
Baring his sharp, long teeth, he thrust into a pool of blood that gave him an entirely different feeling. “Fated ones taste different”! his lips drew back in a snarl.
Chapter 01
Fillory is a large town of both vampires and humans, in a world where vampires and humans cohabit, there are rules guiding this cohabitation to protect the weak humans from predation.
To ensure an unprejudiced environment, the humans sell their blood to the vampires in return for money while they in turn provide them with food and security. The humans although have more to give considering the agreement on lands and governance but they preferred the vampires over other mythical creatures.
Dominating this town is a vampire king who betrayed the curse of his kind! They call them men of the nights for they are cursed by light but he is a monster that ambles along the rays of sunlight.
The ruthless vampire king Lucien is known by all but seen by few with his strides almost invincible when he passes.
A tyrant vampire king whose face has never crossed with emotion. His aura amongst his men makes them quail and his wholesomeness screams royalty.
King Lucien enjoys the fear delivered to all even though his people have never seen his face. He makes judgment while his brother passes it across the community.
His empire betrays not the evil inside of him. They call him a monster and so he is.
The sun blazed the clear blue sky and streaks of sunlight are seen slumbering In their finest quality, over the red bathing in the king’s chamber. Perhaps the rumor about him bathing in human blood was never a lie.
Besides the ceramic bathtub reveals a lifeless body of a young woman, with faint trails of dark veins sprawled out of the purple bite marks.
He settled into his bathe and the corner of his mouth turned up to reveal an undisguised grin.
A knock came on his door and as if the approaching men knew the exact time for his reply, they steadied to where the lifeless body rested with fear smelt in the air. They know it to anger their king in the slightest way possible.
Two guards should be enough to carry a body but four came and carried the body away quietly trying not to breathe too loud to disturb the peaceful bathe the king is having.
It took them a few seconds to disappear from the room just for the receding footsteps to be replaced with a familiar royal one.
Lucien gave a lopsided grin and his lips drew back in a snarl, he knows the steps belonged to no one else but his stepbrother.
Derek Salvatore is the king’s stepbrother who makes affairs easy for him, he shows his love and care for his brother on the surface but deep down, he despised him for being on the throne that belongs to him. The king married his mother first but Lucien’s mother gave birth to a male child first, therefore making him the rightful heir according to customs.
Thanks to Eldred, the oldest elder who favors Lucien more and made him king over a deal.
Lucien’s mother was a vampire making him so powerful since the strength came from both sides while Derek’s mother was human. His enmity deepened when he fell in love with a female vampire who happened to be Lucien’s bride only for Lucien to give her up to the elders. The yearly sacrifice that keeps them walking under the sun with their shoulders held high.
They both knew what they feel for each other but order must be followed, he is the king after all and he dare not stand against him.
“I see you still have no restraint in feeding your highness,” Derek said with a smile.
Lucien’s eyes remained closed with no reply to his brother.
“I hope you enjoy the aftereffects of losing your humanity brother.” he added as he emphasized the “brother”.
Finally, he opened his eye, and his cold air settled around Derek if not that he is also a vampire, I would have judged his reaction to be fear.
Lucien smirked devoid of any emotion, his penetrating icy stare remained. “I see why you decided to go young again brother, heard you want to return to school for like 100th time already,” he said.
“It is more fun than joining your monstrous killing spree brother, the time spent with new people, the feeling is what you can never get just being here in your palace,” he said.
Derek is the only person who can talk back to him but he does it carefully too, the king is someone who wants nothing but obedience and complete submission. When he noticed Lucien’s jaw twitched, he knew that he was going to switch to the deadly side he can't even dare to face and so he stopped his game with words and took his leave.
King Lucien’s face narrowed down the door and watched him disappear like smoke. Derek didn't walk, he ran.
Soon, a voice came unto Lucien and he looked heavenward. A big but old figure appeared hovering above him.
“I don't tolerate straining my sight to hear your message Eldred!” he growled as he picked an ugly scarred mask beside him on the cold floor.
“Don't you want to try another matchmaking?” the voice said to him.
Lucien recoiled with undisguised contempt “Don't tell me you are growing impatient Eldred, we still have long days and months to the next sacrifice, or do you want another of the woman I love? “
“Hmm” Eldred took a deep breath then continued “Zelina was fated to die, it was heavens and not anyone's fault,” he said.
“She was my first love and my heaven-sent bride Eldred, you killed the supposed future queen of my empire,” he said with an abrupt stand from the bathe.
“I never forced you, Lucien, you had what we needed, the fate of your empire was on her and you did the right thing boy.” The voice said slowly fading away.
Lucien slipped into his robe with anger wrestling within him. He changed into his royal robe and sprinted out of the room to the corridors. His supernatural speed is soon reduced to a walk but his strides are almost invincible still.
Suddenly, his knees weakened and his senses were on fire, a deadly headache hit him forcing him to shut his eyes as he clutch onto his mask. Behind his closed eyes reveals a vision of a girl with no face and he can smell her as if she's right before him.
The feeling of being weak over a beautiful but tormenting scent angers him that he punched the wall of the corridor which rumbled with dust.
“Damn this, she is near” he groaned.
