SISTERLY HATE [CHAPTER 1]
As I stepped pass the faint glow of the backyard motion light, my heart raced with the familiar thrill of sneaking back in. The music and laughter of the party last night still echoed in my ears, but I knew I had to move quickly and quietly if I wanted to avoid getting caught. I crept across the lawn, my eyes fixed on the back door, my mind rehearsing the excuses I'll do use if my Dad caught me slipping in at dawn. As soon as i reached for the back door handle, i felt a sudden jolt of fear as the porch light flickered on, illuminating my guilty expression. My heart sank as i saw my dad's stern face peering out from behind the door, his arms crossed and his eyes narrowed. I knew I was busted, and the night that had started out so carefree was about to take a very different turn... With a firm voice. DAD: Ava, where are you coming from? AVA: (stutters) I-i went to... DAD: Speak up!! AVA: (frightened) From... from a friend- DAD: (angrily) Don't even dear lie to me AVA: A... a pa-party... but, Dad, it just a few blocks away.. DAD: Ava, I do not want to hear anything else. Hand over your Phone to me right now. AVA: Dad, please, I would- DAD: (cut in) Do not make me repeat myself. AVA: Dad please, my phone doesn't have anything with- Before I could even complete my statement, his gaze dropped to my phone, still clutched in my hand. With a swift motion, he snatched it from me and slammed it to the ground, the screen shattering into a hundred pieces. I felt a surge of devastation wash over me, as my eyes fixed on my broken phone. My heart stopped and I gasped for air as I felt light headed. AVA: (tearfully) Dad why did you smash my phone?! it's not fair! My phone had nothing with me going to the party! DAD: You're losing privileges, and you're still questioning me?! You think you can just disobey me and then act like the victim. I'm doing this because I care about you, Ava, and I won't let you ruin your life with reckless behavior! AVA: But dad... DAD: Ava, go to your room now! - My eyes welled up with tears as I realized my night of fun had turned into a nightmare. The only thought banging in my head is "How will I live.” A day without my phone is extremely boring, talk more of a week. No social media, no taking of selfies, no Goggle, no music... the thought alone was crippling. After my dad simply left me there, on my kneels still crying, I saw Hazel, my younger sister giggling and laughing mischievously through the window, a cunning smile spreading across her face. She was happy that Dad had smashed my phone, and the sight of it only escalated my anger and frustration even more. I ignore her, took my broken phone and ran to my room. I sat on my bed, gliding the broken part with my hands, tears continued to stream down my eyes. I still couldn't believe what had just happened, my Dad harsh punishment seems unforgivable. I wished my mom was here to mediate, and to advise Dad not to smash my phone, but to hold onto it for few weeks instead. But my mom was away on a trip, and I was left to face my Dad's wrath alone. I seethed with rage, and my mind racing with thought of rebellion. How could he be so cruel? what did my phone have to do with my going to a night party? how did he find out I snuck out? worst still, how did he know I would sneak in through the back door? So many questions swirled in my mind but I knew I wouldn't get any answer from Dad. Just then, the door opened, and my Dad walked in, his expression unyielding. DAD: (firmly) Ava, listen carefully. You're not getting a new phone until I say so, and that includes when your mom gets back from her trip. Now, go take a shower. When you're done, head straight to the kitchen and wash those dishes. You've got a lot of chores to catch up on. AVA: Dad you smashed my phone and now I have got to do all the chores.. what about Hazel? wouldn't she help out!? DAD: Hazel is sick.. AVA: Is she? DAD: How would you know your sister is sick, when you were out partying all night, sneaking out without permission! You left your younger sister home alone, shivering with fever, and now you're complaining about the consequences of your actions? (sign)...Come on, hurry up! you have a lot of chores to complete.. Dad walked out, leaving the door slightly open. I dashed towards it and slammed it shut, tears streaming down my face. I leaned against the door, my body trembling as I slid down to the floor. AVA: (sobbing) How could she be so heartless? She plan all this...
