A Change In The Air

1915 Words
Andrea's POV Dinner continued, even then, I remained quiet. When that was done, Ethan and I went back to our Villa. On the way home, he held on to my hand like he was holding on to his last hope. In the car, the air was thick but the tension was even thicker. I didn't say anything, instead I turned my head to my side of the window and watched as the car drove past the booming night life of P Country. Arriving at the Villa, I went straight to our bedroom and ran a bath, Ethan came in, I was in the bath, I smelled his pheromones before he entered the room. He had just taken a shower himself and he finally smelled like himself again. Meaning that he knew that he smelled like her and that it bothered me, still, I didn't care. He stood by the doorway, almost naked with only a small bath towel hanging on his waist. His six pack and muscles were still glistening with droplets of water from his shower, his hair was still wet. He folded his arms and shot me a look, I didn't look at him long enough to read his face. " What do you want?" I said in a flat tone and closed my eyes. " Your forgiveness," he said flatly. " For what?" I asked. " For bringing Gina along tonight. She begged me to come, I didn't have the heart to say no to her. I should have told you sooner," he said to me. " Okay," I said flatly. " Okay?" he asked me, as if he was surprised by my answer. " Hmm, she begged you to come, that I understand. What about the outfit, did she also beg you to wear matching outfits as well?" I asked him. " You mean the suit? Andrea, Gina is younger and she's more in tune with the new fashion trends, tonight was a big night for us, she wanted me to look good for you. Was that wrong too?" he said to me. " Hmmm, so the one I had tailor made to match my dress wasn't fashionable enough? Don't you find it surprising that her dress matched with the suit?" I said flatly. " Come on Andrea, it's just a suit. Don't tell me that you're sulking because of that. As for her dress, she didn't have anything to wear, I told her to pick out a dress as a thank you for the suit, I didn't even notice that we matched. It's just clothes! Don't tell me that you're angry over that," he said to me. When he puts it like that, it does sound ridiculous, like I am upset about something small. That's Ethan for you, he always knows how to defend himself and turn it into my fault in the process. After what happened tonight, he wants to make me feel like I was overreacting, like I was being irritaional and not considerate. He is a man so he doesn't get it, but I see it. Gina isn't as innocent as she pretended to be. Tonight, I didn't even say one word to her, because I wanted everyone to see her for who she truly was, a manipulative homewrecker who used her brother's death to worm her way into our lives and into my husband's arms. " Ethan, I'm tired. I don't want to do this with you," I said and stood up. I pulled the bathrobe and put it on. I was about to walk past him when he grabbed my hand and pulled me to his chest. " Andrea... You're my wife. I love you and only you..." he said and then leaned in closer to my ear. " I love you to death," he whispered the last part. My eyes widened. I knew exactly what he meant. It wasn't a warning, it was a threat. Though I was surprised, I almost laughed, my husband is the Don and he is threatening me, the one who has a high seat at the commission, the very same commission that funds over sixty percent of his business. I guess I hid my identity well because if he knew who I truly was, he wouldn't even think about threatening me. With just a single phone call, I could bring down his whole empire. " Ethan, do you really think that I wouldn't dare leave you?" I said to him. His grip on my hand tightened, his breathing changed and his pupils dilated. He had a hard expression on his face. " If you dare to leave me, I will find you and when that happens, I will lock you up here forever..." he said with a smile, but I know that he was serious. Despite the fact that he is too close to Gina, Ethan's feelings for me have always been strong, he has always loved me and honestly, I know that he is possesive of me, and maybe that's the problem. He thinks that he owns me, that I couldn't possibly walk away from him. If he saw the divorce papers, he would flip out. I have had them for the last two weeks, wondering if I should give them to him, and after what he said, perhaps now wouldn't be a good time to bring them up. " What about Gina and her baby?" I said flatly. His eyes widened, shock written all over his face, his face went pale and he let go of me, he took a step back. " What?" he asked me. Of course I know, how could I not know? After all, I saw them with my own two eyes. A couple of weeks ago, I wasn't feeling well, I have been using pheromone suppressors for years, I thought that they had finally taken a toll on my body and that they were messing up with my cycle. I didn't want Ethan to stress about it, until I knew for sure what was wrong with me, I wouldn't tell him. I made my way to the private hospital, one owned by the Voss's. I am the Dons wife, I have been to this hospital a lot of times over the years, the staff were pretty much familiar with me, seeing me there shouldn't have alarmed them, but somehow my presence seemed to catch a lot of the staff off-guard. I met up with Dr. Mercer and she rushed to get the results, an hour later, I got my results. I can still replay the moment in my mind. I was nervous, wondering if the doctor would tell me to stop using Pheromones suppressors. She has warned me a lot of times in the last couple of years that prolonged use of these drugs would affect my health at some point. I didn't have a choice, the Donna of the Russo cartel couldn't be an alpha, especially one that's a class above the Don. I simply couldn't be stronger than Ethan, I had to do it, no matter the cost. But the fear was real. The doctor came in with my file in hand and took a seat at her table. " Well, looks like the lab worked fast," she said with a blank expression as she paged through my results. " Give it to me straight. Whatever is wrong with me, just tell me," I said to her nervously. " Well, from what I can see here, there is a problem. You're pregnant," she said to me. " What? Didn't you say that I would struggle to conceive?" I asked her. That was what she told me. She said that I wouldn't be able to have kids while I was on Pheromones suppressors. Ethan and I had a talk about kids when we first got married, but we had both decided to wait till I was twenty-five to have a child. He said that he wanted us to enjoy our marriage first before bringing in children into our lives. " That's what I thought, medically, it shouldn't be possible. You and your husband are both alpha's, to conceive a child naturally should be next to impossible, especially since you're on Pheromone suppressors," she said to me. " Andrea, you need to understand that there might be complications with the pregnancy, looking at the chart and the test results, you might have to terminate the pregnancy or risk not having children or even lose your life," she said to me. " I am keeping it," I said without hesitation. " No matter the risks, I am keeping this baby. I am an alpha, my body can handle pregnancy," I continued to say. " Andrea, being A+class Alpha doesn't make you indestructible. Normally, this shouldn't even be a problem, but you were on pheromone suppressors for the last four years. Your health is not at its best, carrying this baby will only put more strain on your already frail body. As your doctor, I strongly advise that you think about terminating the pregnancy," she said to me. " I will consider your suggestion, but my answer remains the same, I am not giving up on this child," I said to her. " Andrea... You're still young, if a baby is really that important to you. You can try again, the right way this time around but, I can't let you put your life at risk like this," she said to me. " Doctor Mercer, you have been my doctor for the last five years, you know better than anyone that you can't talk me out of something I have already decided on," I said to her. " It's because I have been your doctor for so long that I am against this pregnancy, remember what happened when you got here? How you almost died?" she said to me. " I know..." I said and bowed my head. " I don't want to lose you. You're like a daughter to me Andrea and you have also told me that you see me as a mother, so, from mother to daughter, I am asking you to put yourself first. Men aren't worth risking our lives for. This isn't going to solve anything," she said to me. I have known doctor Mercer for five years now, I knew her before I even met my husband, she's right about one thing, she has always been like a mother to me, our relationship goes far beyond this hospital. I am the one who got her appointed here as the hospital director because I didn't want anyone to find out about my true secondary gender. So, it's only normal that I would talk to her and tell her things, especially since she isn't just a general doctor but also a therapist. We talked about my marriage and I told her what was happening with Ethan and Gina lately. " Doctor Mercer, would you believe me if I told you that I am not keeping this child for Ethan, but for myself?" I said to her. My marriage was a mess. I don't even need anyone to tell me the truth about my husband and Gina, too many things had happened and I was well aware of my situation. Still, this child is innocent. She said it herself, it shouldn't even be able to happen, so for me, this is a life worth keeping, even if the father wasn't there.
