Don't leave me Like the last time... I won't be able to see you again after tonight. It's going to hurt so much more if I'm not here for it, right? For a moment, she almost brought up her hand and touched his face. She thought of how he'd always been looking at her in such an adoring way—how she wished that they could have had their chance together. But then she stopped herself, because she couldn't do anything now that would ruin everything. No matter how much she wanted to apologize or beg him not to go, there was nothing she could say or do at this point. So instead of reaching out to touch him, she smiled, closed her eyes, and turned around. Her hair brushed against his cheek as she did so, but she didn't look back again. She heard the door shut behind her, but she knew that she wouldn't be coming back anytime soon. So she kept walking until she reached her room on the third floor. The door opened before her and she walked inside, letting the heavy wood close behind her without turning around. Then she sat down on the bed and leaned back against the wall. There was no need to take off her clothes; she wasn't going to get dressed again. Instead, she simply lay on the bed with her hands folded under her head. She stared blankly at the ceiling, watching the faint light from the oil lamp reflect off the plaster above her head
