Chapter two: the wedding He tried to take of his shirt and out out the fire in his body but it was proving futile, as we both ran towards the exit, “papi hold on a little longer you'll survive!" She said in tears as she was very close to the entrance but a while mess of burning woods and bricks fell down on him and he was rushed by them, “papi!!!!" She yelled as she ran back inside the flames, “Rosalina, get out of here you have to survive" “im not leaving you, damn it!" She said angrily “mija both of us dying here wouldn't do anyone any good, please survive for me, promise me that you'll be a good girl, and never let anyone trample over you" he said then he winced in pain as the fire had already engulfed most ofthe debris that fell on him, I just nodded with tears in my eyes, I took off the Rose that he out in my head earlier and out it in his stretched out arm, “thanks Mija, now get out of..." Another ember fell and separated me from him as I yelled. Demi's pov It's been more than five minutes since Rodriguez went into that building and there was no sign of movement in the building, only the embers falling continuously my heart was beating really heavily in my chest, I can't believw that I had lost my daughter and husband in one day, The entire building was collapsing rapidly and a thick screen of smoke covered the atmosphere, I became weak in the knees, my legs could no longer supporting the weight of my body, people around were trying to console me, but I wasn't having any of it, my heart ripped, it was all just roo much and roo sudden, “wait I can see something!" A man wearing a brown singlet and shirts said, pointing towards the smoke, immediately I looked up and I saw a tall figure emerge from it, it couldn't be! It was my daughter, I hurried stood up and ran to her, happy that she at least survived. She was all covered in smoke, her milky clothe had turned almost black and the patterns in it were no longer visible, she was coughing and I could see tears in her eyes, she was crying, I coukd only imagine what she went through in there, I just hugged her tightly. “dad!" She muttered as she just kept on crying in my arms. The fire department came over and together with the help of the people they were able to put out the fire. 3 months after the incident Rosalina's pov I was in my skate board wheeling down the curb, when I arrived at flower shop, “good morning Rosa how are you doing today?" Mariano asked, the shop attendant asked she just had the cold look that she had gotten ever since her dad died, “Just give me my usual" she said not returning his formality, “hold on a sec" he said as he went into the part where the other flowers were kept. her phone dinged, she checked it and saw a message reminder of her mother's wedding, she immediately ignored the message and shoved her phone back in her jeans pocket, angrily. “here you go, a bouquet of rose for the lady" he said “im sure that if your rose green house didn't burn up, I wouldn't get the chance to see your face every day" Mariano said smiling shipishly, I gave him a look that showed that I didn't approve of what he said, “sorry" he said, and I payed him for the flowers, and was heading out. “good luck on your mom's wedding" he said and I just left the shop he always picked the wrong thing to say, it pissed me off, why would he assume that I was happy that my mom was going to get married to another man, an American, he had two sons whom where in the states, they decided to hold the wedding here in Mexico, and it was going to happen in two hours, I'm not going. I hopped back in my skate board and wheeled towards my dad's grave, and after a while I got there, I squatted down, closer to his head stone, it was a marble head stone, it had the words “Rodriguez Fuertes, 1989 - 2024, loving husband and father," reading it brought tears into my eyes, they were threatening to spill, “you know dad I tried regrowing our rose garden, even though the fire burned it all, you'd be really surprised how quickly flowers grow after a fire" I sad trying to force a smile on my face even though tears where dropping down quickly. “mom is getting married, to a man named Adrian Dexter, I'm trying to be supportive but I just any help feeling betrayed by it all, so I am not sure that I am going to attend that wedding, anyway dad I got your favourites today also" I said as Irwmoved the wilted rose and out in the fresh ones, “they are my favourite too" I said as I still tried to laugh as I remembered how he put the rose in my hair. I walked out of the grave site just taking a stroll and I landed at the park I could see the wedding venue all the way from up here, they had lights and music, there was a tarpolin tent pulled up with a small atand in the middle, my mom and Adrian was in the middle of it exchanging their vows, it was happening, as they repeated their vows after the priest, there was a small crowd of people seated in white chairs beautifully decorated with balloons and ribbons, she looked happy, but I wasn't I just saw it as betrayal. I saw Mariano moving some bouquets of flowers around the venue, he saw me and was smiling happily, but I didn't reciprocate his smile he waved, and I tried to wave back and he smiled again I saw him climbing the flight of stairs, heading my direction, I sighed. “your mom would be really happy if you showed up for the wedding you know" he said as I just watched on, without replying him. I watched as Adrian kisses her and she kissed him back they were happy, it brought back memories of my dad, though now that I think about it, my mom and dad were never that close. “i over heard that after this wedding you'll be moving to America is that true?" He asked me, I just nodded, “it must be exciting, going over to a new country" he said again, “you ever wonder how I feel leaving the place I grew up in and the people that I would leave behind let's say you for example, how do you think that I am taking it?" I asked him and his cheerful countenance suddenly became a serious one, “i had often wondered about that I was only trying to be supportive you know" he said just staring blankly into space, “weve had a lot of fun together, when we were eight do you remember when we snuck into my dads green house when he didn't want us going there" I said as the memory flooded through my head, “yeah that was when I realized that I was alergic to morning glory, i got a rash on my back for weeks" he said making me laugh, remembering how he was scratching his back repeatedly, “and your eyes were bulging out" I said smiling more, “that wasn't funny it hurt like hell" he said but I was still smiling, I heard a single in my phone I checked it again, it was a message from my mom, she told me to pack my things we are leaving mexico tonight, my mood dulled again, completeIy. “in sorry Mariano I'm leaving tonight, I've gotta start parking" I said and walked away from him, I felt like this was my mothers way of punishing me for not attending the wedding. I got to my room and immediately got to my small wall closet and was moving my clothes into my box, I didn't have much clothes, or shoes they all got lost in the fire, the little that I had fit into my bag perfectly, I grabbed unto the only picture I had left of my dad, it was half scorched but his facial features was still intact, it was his only belonging to survive the fire, I heard a a knock in my door, I wondered who it was........
