Chapter three: I'm no good at goodbyes
Rosalinas pov
“its open!" I said as my mom walked in, I was still clutching the framed picture, she saw it and immediately averted her eyes from it, I think she felt a tad guilty in a sense, “you didn't show up for the wedding today, your presense would've meant a lot to me," she said trying to sound enthusiastic.
“im sorry mom but I couldn't bring myself to go, I felt like I would he betraying dad as you should be" I said anger definitely written in my voice, “your dad is gone, life goes in we all move on" my mom said her voice getting harsher now, “move on? It's only been what 3 months since dad passed and you have suddenly moved on from him, maybe you have moved on mom I haven't, I don't think that I ever will, so forgive me if I am not as enthusiastic as you are"
The last part of my words were breaking, I was more sad now than angry, “our flight leaves in the next two hours make sure you are up and ready to go in half that time, I'm going to Adrian's hotel room, to gather up the rest of my things, we both would come here and pick you up" she simply just said and walked out if the room. I felt heavy but I had no choice in the matter,
I put the framed picture in the bag and closed it, that was all I had left. I hauled my almost empty bag towards the already empty living room, waiting for them come and pick me up, I looked around the empty house that had become my new home ever since the fire incident, yet again I was more anxious about what my life was going to be like in the new country that I was going to he in,
I spoke and understiid English well, but my accent still had that Mexican charm to it, my dad said it made me look cute, I remembered him once more.
I went outside sitting down in the front porche, staring at the empty road, the moon was out but it wasn't late it was only a little bit after 7, I saw someone approaching my direction, I knew that it wasn't Adrian and my mom because the person was on a bicycle, Adrian rented a jeep for his journey here, as he started coming into view it was Mariano I hadn't even though of how I was doing to say good bye to my childhood friend,
He parked his bicycle in front of the entrance to the porch, he was holding a bouquet of roses, in his hand as he took off his helmet, he was out o breath and i could see him sweating, “ohh I thought that I was too late, I was helping to clean up after the wedding but it took forever, I wanted to say goodbye to you in person, so I am very glad that you are still here", he said still trying to catch his breath.
I didn't still say anything, I think that he has gotten used to my attitude by now, because he is nede bothered by me not answering him anymore, the atmosphere got uneasily quiet, “here I got this for you i know it has value to you, so here" he handed the red roses over to me as the smell hit my nostrils before I got a food grip of them, “i know that you wouldn't be able to get that into a plane, but at least it'll do"
I was just staring at him, “have a nice trip, he said again and stood up, I just felt hollow, I wasn't making things easy I noticed that, this might be the last time that I get to see him, watching him walk away without saying a word hurt me I stood up “mariano wait!" I said as I got closer to his bicycle, that he had already grabbed a hold of,
He turned back to look at me and immediately I locked my lips on his, he was stunned at first but he later eased into it, his lips were soft, the smell of his cologne smelled like roses, we were there for a while, then I broke it off, he had a really cute look on his face,
“im glad im not the only one that felt it too, that there could've been an us," he said, almost smiling “its too late, I'll keep you posted when I arrive America, good bye Mariano" I said with a tone of finality, trying not to cry in front of him, he wore his helmet and nodded, ”ilk always thing of you fondly Rosa" he said and blew me a kiss, then started pedaling, he called me Rosa, it means rose in Spanish, I stared at the roses he gave me as my tears dropped down on them, the tear drop swirled around until it got into the flower,
I was loosing two people now that we're really close to me, both my dad and now Mariano, but I didn't have enough time to ponder over that as I saw headlights, of a grey Lexus 330 coming my direction immediately I knew that they were here for me.
It pulled up in front of me, I could see my mom seating in the passengers seat beside the drivers seat which Adrian occupied, “i'll help you with your luggage, just get in" Adrian said,
“i can take care of it myself" i said slightly harshly, “suit yourself" he said as the boot door opened and I put my luggage inside, I reached out to grab the bottom of the door and closed it, walking towards the back door and took a seat, the windows were wound up and the air-conditioning was running, music also playing the car,
My mom had a happy face and so did Adrian as he out the car in gear, and drove off the curb and headed straight to the airport, which was also close to where he rented the car.
We boarded a plane, though I was sad I must say it was exillerating to be on a plane, because I had never been in one before, “attention everyone this is your pilot speaking, we have clear skies and fair winds so everyone should just fasten their seat belts we are about to take off!" The pilot said as the ladies in black and white, were helping thkse people who didn't inow how to operate the airplane seatbelt,
I didn't know how either but looking at it, it was easier to figure out carrying the part with the metal like head and inserting it into the other compartment, as easy as putting on a car seat belt. Wen the flight was booked there was only two vip sections in the plane left, so my mom and Adrian, were inbthe vip section while I was in the commercial section, I saw it as a relief since, I wanted to be alone at the time, olus I also did get the feeling that my mom doesn't want I be around me right now.
I felt the plane move as I was being pushed into my seat, the speed increased as I felt that y had lifted from the ground, the feeling was so thrilling I liked it, I wasn't seated near the window but I could still see it, we were in the air now aa I could see clouds disperse away from the part the plane comes in contact with, it was like fanning smoke with your hand.
After a couple of hours in the plane we finally landed at the los Angeles international Airport lax, surprisingly it was afternoon here when a few hours ago it was just evening time in Mexico, after the hassle of getting out of the, plane with my belongings, I met up with Adrian and my mom, it appeared that Adrian was looking for someone, finally I saw a handsome tall young man probably in his early twenties, walk towards us, he was really attractive, he had blonde hair, and looked a lot like Adrian, couldn't tell the colour of his eyes because he had sunglasses on,
“where is my driver?" Adrian asked casually, “he has a flu so I had no choice but to come pick you up" he said, gazing at my mom with contempt in his eyes, I didnt know if Adrian had any kids, my mom and I haven't been on the best of terms when it came to Adrian, so I didn't know much of him....
