Chapter 4: Damon POV

Chapter 4: Damon Tears started streaming down my beautiful mate's cheeks. "No, no, don't cry, love, don't cry," I said, squeezing her hand. She didn't acknowledge my words at first. She stared off as if having a bad memory. I traced more and more circles into her palm, hoping it would calm her down. I thought I was being generous, forgiving her past relationship. Suddenly her face turned red and she slapped me across the cheek. "How dare you! I was raped! I was abused! And for your information even if I had had s*x consensually that would not have been your business, not yours or anyone's! It would not make me some slut or any other slur your stupid boy brain may have considered! Get out! Get out now!!" Before I could react the machine started beeping rapidly, matching her heart and anger. Hospital employees swarmed in followed by her uncle. I was pushed out by a nurse. I found myself alone in the hallway. I felt my body stiffen as her words finally processed in my mind. She said she had been raped. I knew that meant some mutt had forced her, taken advantage of her. I felt rage take over. Both my wolf and I wanted to murder whoever had hurt our mate. My thoughts immediately went to the blonde-haired jackass from earlier. I didn't know his name. I just knew Clara had referred to him as her boyfriend even though she had seemed upset about it. I watched as the DO NOT ENTER light flashed on and stayed lit above her hospital room door. I couldn't do anything there so I stomped off and found Jay and the Mason brothers. "You two. Explain. Now." I was trying my best to keep it together, speaking through gritted teeth. Bobby stared confused, while Billy shook his head. "I promised Clara I wouldn't talk about it." Bobby and I glared at the younger boy. If he were a wolf I'd still refer to him as a pup. He was small and hard to control. "Spill, little bro," Bobby said. Billy looked at us and sighed, "Brent beats her up. It's been going on for over a year. I asked her if he does other stuff but she just started crying and wouldn't talk about it." Bobby gasped, "How the hell did you not tell me or more importantly Dad? Or Uncle John or Aunt Michelle?" Billy glared at his older brother and said, "I just found out a week ago and Clara made me promise to not tell! She said it was her job to tell not mine!" I felt the rage well up again. I had a first name...Brent. Stupid name for a stupid mongrel. "I need as much information as you have. Full name, address, any pack affiliations." The Mason brothers stared, the older asking if I thought Brent was a wolf. "I don't know. Honestly there were so many different scents in the house I couldn't decipher. Clara's scent for obvious reasons was the only one I zoned in on." Bobby nodded, "Brent Henderson, 18 years old, pride and joy of the richest family in town. They live in the huge house at the top of the hill north of Clara's house. No idea about pack. We didn't know they existed until I met you a few years ago." I nodded and stomped off, mind-linking Jay to follow and keep up. I was ready to show the mongrel what was what. The moment I saw the Henderson home I knew I was dealing with werewolves. They lived in a mansion and there were ten cars outside. No human family in suburbia lived this way. This was a pack house I concluded. Jay nudged me, "Are you sure about this? This is not neutral territory. If this place belongs to who I think it does we don't want to mess with them." I glared at my Beta as if he were a spineless jellyfish. "I don't care who they are or what you think you know about them. He hurt my mate!" Jay's face dropped, "You're right, I'm sorry. I didn't like seeing her hurt. We need to protect her at all costs." I smacked his back and said, "Exactly. She is our future Luna. We need to learn what we can and get this guy for good." Jay nodded in agreement. We started with researching the address and any registered occupants. How no one noticed there were twenty residents, many unrelated, I don't know. Usually people notice that kind of thing outside of werewolf communities. These people were living in plain sight. It was actually very clever. They lived amongst humans and pretended to be like them. And the humans were none the wiser because we were a well kept secret outside of wolf settlements like the one we resided in. We hid when we saw a middle-aged couple exit the mansion and climb into a black SUV. They were followed by the rapist known as Brent. I refused to allow myself to forget what he was. s****l abuse was not accepted in my pack and I would never allow Clara or any other girl be subjected to it again at the hands of this monster. He got into the backseat, but not before showing me the black eye I had left him with. It made me smirk. For someone so comfortable beating up on girls he sure took my beating like a wimp. We climbed back into our own car and followed them. They drove to the town border and into another pack's territory. That's where I had to let the trail go cold. We couldn't risk another pack sensing us on their land. "We will get him when he least expects it," I told Jay.
