Chapter 11: Brent POV Scouting out the mountain town proved more difficult than planned. Unlike suburbia everything here was far apart and well hidden. Eventually I stumbled upon a large farmhouse that had my mate's scent. It was faint. I almost missed it. There was no car outside and no sign of life. I entered through the back door. Humans don't ever lock their back door. Fools. I walked around. It looked like a bachelor pad with large TVs and video game consoles in every room. Not a single female touch. My mother would definitely raise her nose at such a place. I checked all of the rooms out. I went from room to room. The master bedroom was definitely her uncle's. It stunk of him and multiple females. The two smaller bedrooms stunk of adolescent boys. The final bedroom was definitely hers. I recognized her scent and the things that used to occupy her old bedroom. I went into her closet and touched her clothes. I inhaled her scent. It was intoxicating! I smiled as I moved on to her dresser and found her underwear drawer. I snagged a pair of lacy pink panties and stuffed them into my back pocket. I missed my girl's scent. I found what looked like a spare key on top of her dresser. I pocketed that as well. Iwas about to go through her desk when I heard an engine cut off outside. I looked out the window. It was the three males but Clara was nowhere in sight. I put her journal on the bed and dashed out the back door. I didn't care about those three. I just wanted my mate back. I shifted in the woods and ran to where I had left my car. Today was successful as far as reconnaissance. I knew where she lived now and could get in whenever I wanted. I had also planted her journal in her room. It had a message in it for my mate. I wanted her to understand our bond and that no one would take her from me. No one. Not even another Alpha. I drove through town looking one last time to see if I could spot my mate. It was a Sunday. Where could she be if not with her family? I was about to take the exit out of town when I caught sight of something interesting. It was a big beautiful church with stain-glass windows. It looked like the kind of place Clara might go. Her parents were always faithful people. My family only went to church to keep up appearances. There was no formal church or need for one to worship the Moon Goddess. I parked outside. There were several cars. I heard a choir singing. I walked in through the front door. I was greeted by a woman in a long dress. She handed me a paper booklet. "Welcome," she said, warmly. She was human. I offered her a fake smile and walked into the main room. The choir was singing. To my surprise Clara was up there with them! She always had an angelic voice but I never allowed her to share it with other people. I made her quit her old choir and had her give me private shows only. She was wearing a short sleeveless blue dress. It made me growl internally. She should not be showing so much skin! She was breaking so many rules! I sat in the back pew. I put my sunglasses on before she would recognize me. I wanted to listen to her sing before I confronted her. When the song ended the pastor came in front of his congregation and said, "Happy Sunday, happy Sabbath!" The congregation repeated his words back to him. This seemed like a scripted moment they probably did every Sunday. I rolled my eyes. "I have wonderful news! We have a new member! You may have seen her hiding in the back last week but today with God's grace she is up front with our choir and she has the voice of an angel! Clara, will you please join me?" I leaned forward. What was this human doing? The older man took her hand the moment she approached. She smiled at the group of churchgoers. "Hello, my name is Clara Mason. I just moved here to live with family after I lost my parents. Church and choir have always been a big part of my life. I'm not perfect but I hope you'll accept me." The crowd cheered. For a moment I thought it was kind of cute. Maybe I should let her join choir again as long as she dresses more appropriately? "We also have a returning member we have not seen in a couple of years. I hear they know one another. Damon?" The man winked at my mate which pissed me off. Who was this Damon person? Suddenly the dark-haired bastard who hit me appeared with Clara and the pastor. He took her hand and kissed it. People around me said "Awwww." I wanted to puke. "Hello everyone, I know you all know me from the community but I have not been at church in a few years. This angel here is my girlfriend Clara. Please take care of us." The crowd cheered even louder this time. I could tell about fifty percent of the people in here were werewolves and undoubtedly part of his pack. Did these people really worship anyone but the Moon Goddess? Disgusting. The pastor started his sermon. I wasn't listening. I didn't believe in this God person.  Suddenly a pup near where I sat started sniffing the air. He looked back at me and scrunched his face up. He not so subtlety whispered to the wolf next to him. "Daddy, there is an outsider behind us." His father shushed him. "Mind your manners. Goddess allows everyone in her home." Goddess? Her home? I listened closer to the sermon. The pastor spoke of the Moon Goddess as well as the man Christians called God. "The Moon Goddess brought us all together while God brought us all life. We coexist as one." I took a closer look at the congregation. They were all mixed families or pure blood wolves! I thought they were all hillbillies living in secret from humans! I felt annoyed that I had been wrong. Another song was sung. Clara had a solo. I melted as I watched her perform. I wanted so badly to smell her blonde hair and touch her soft skin. I wanted to mark her and make my claim public. I was tempted to snatch her now but I was outnumbered here. I snuck out before the service ended. So Damon is his name? Not only had I located my mate I also found her captor. She was confused is all. I knew she knew were were destined for each other. I laughed as I left the mountain town. I had what I needed to start my rescue mission planning.
