Chapter 5

823 Words
Jay After Sophie leaves, I go inside and start packing, because I was told to pack like 2 weeks ago, and lord knows I haven’t done that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I collapse on my bed when I finish packing. I really need to learn to stop procrastinating, honestly you’d really think I’d have learned my lesson by now, considering all the times I’d almost gotten in trouble for not getting things done on time. Although, if you think about it, the key word is almost, so really I shouldn't stop procrastinating. I grab my phone and open messages. I text Sophie, “Goodnight ?”. “Night, love you ?”. I look at Sophie’s text with a dejected expression. I turn my phone off and put it on the charger. I lay on my bed, looking at the ceiling, thinking about Sophie, and why she didn’t love me the way she loved all those guys. Sophie When I get back home from Jay’s house, I take a long shower to clear my thoughts, although I can’t stop thinking about what or who could’ve hurt Jay like that. I’d never seen so much hurt in his eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When I get out of the shower, my phone buzzes. I get dressed and check my phone. Jay had sent me a text. “Goodnight ?”. “Night, love you ?,” I text. I wait to see if he’s gonna reply, but it only says seen. He must've gone asleep. Guess I should do the same. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When I wake up, I grab my phone and text Jay, “Morning ?”. Since he doesn’t reply, I figure he’s still sleeping, I mean it is early, considering It’s 7am. Jay I wake up at 6:30 to pack up the rest of my stuff. When I finish packing up, I get dressed. My phone buzzes and I look at a message from Sophie, "Morning ?". I don’t click on it, so it doesn’t say read. I go downstairs to eat breakfast. My mom is sitting on the couch reading a book, she looks up as she hears the bottom stair creak. “Did you talk to Sophie?,” she asks. “It’s okay if you haven’t, I just don’t want you to shut yourself off”. “I won’t, I just need a break from everyone and everything”. “That’s fine. We’re gonna leave at 8”. ~~~~~~~~~~~ I get out of the car and stretch. I open the trunk and grab me and my moms bags. I come back out to carry her and grandma's present. She doesn't want me helping carry in the presents for me, she thinks I’m too good at guessing from the weight. “Hi, Baby!,” my Grandma says. “Hi, Grandma, how've you been?”. “I’ve been doin’ good, what about you?,” she says. “I’ve been good”. “You hungry?,” she asks. “Not right now. I think I’m gonna unpack”. I look at my phone and have no more notifications from Sophie. I press the call button, Sophie immediately answers. “Hi Jay, you okay?,” she asks, concerned. “ Yeah, I’m good, just wanted to talk to you”. “You at your grandmas?,” she asks. “Yeah, just got here”. We sit there in silence, until Sophie awkwardly says, “So what did you wanna talk about?”. “I just wanted to see you, I haven’t in a while”. “Okay,” she says, looking away. “Bye,” I say, trying to keep the pain in my heart from appearing on my face. “Wai-,” she says, when I press end call. I walk out of my room, and into the living room as I hear the bell ring. Standing there is a girl with colorfully dyed short hair and gray eyes that seem to stare into my soul. “Can I have a cup of sugar?,” she asks. “We ran out”. “Hold on a sec,” I say, closing the door. I walk to the pantry and open the sugar container and pour some in a paper cup. I open the door and hand her the sugar. “Thank you,” she says, turning to leave. She pauses. “I've never seen you around here, are you visiting?she asks, turning back around. “I’m visiting my grandma, we've been coming since I was little. “Oh, ok,” she says. She pauses again, “Do you wanna hang out sometime?”. “I’m here for two weeks,” I say with a smile, “So sure, we can hang out”. “Ok, I live next door sooo, I’ll see you around”. I close the door with a smile.
