Adrenaline began to wear thin. The pure grey wolf was loosing the girl’s scent; it had been fading since she had put the necklace back on. She needed to get her and bring her to the alpha. However, the scent ended at the end of the alley. Even if it did go on, she couldn’t follow it due to the people walking through the street.
“Damn it!” The woman cursed as she dropped her shift, clothes still intact.
She’d have to tell the alpha later, she needed to get to school now.

Limping, Laviania ignored the pain shooting up from her ankles. Her stomach growled in hunger, she could feel a bruise forming from where the men punched her. Leaning against her locker, as it slightly relieved the pain, Lavi took long tired deep breaths.
“Lavi you look rough,” Someone said behind her.
Turning around she came face to face with a black haired girl, Collette her friend,” Morning Collette. I’m fine just tripped. I didn’t get any breakfast because I woke up late,”
Collette looked stunned as she practically threw her bag onto the floor and fumbled through it. Always having a good heart, Cole (as Lavi tended to call her) bought out a breakfast bar. She always had spare food, it was like she was a dispenser. Despite meaning well, Laviania often rejected the offer of food because she felt bad for taking it.
“Cole please don’t. I’ll live,” Lavi lightly laughed as she pushed the breakfast bar back towards her friend.
Collette rolled her eyes,” Lavi take it, you need some weight on you. I’ve eaten this morning so this breakfast bar will go to waste otherwise,”
Sighing, Laviania began to eat the breakfast bar. She couldn’t deny, the food did slightly alleviate her pain. Rae gave out a short howl of happiness though it soon turned to a whine when the bar was finished. Feeling slightly defeated, Lavi ignored her stomach roaring for more.
“See? You were super hungry,” Collette mumbled humorously,” Anyway I’ve got to go- I’m meeting Arron in the library,”
Smiling, Lavi stepped closer to her friend,” You still in the friend-zone?”
Red flew onto Collette’s cheek as she playfully pushed Laviania backwards,” There is no friend-zone to be in because I am perfectly happy being just friends with him,”
A sly look came into Laviania’s eyes as she leaned in closer teasingly,” You sure about that? Even if you do mind, there’s no point I saw him with Rachel Parkers yesterday. They looked like they were heading to a*****e-“
The girl was silenced by Collette covering her mouth,” Shut up! Okay maybe I do like him but he is definitely not interested in me like that. I guess I’ll find someone- there is someone for everyone right?”
“Yeah,” Laviania agreed, knowing that Collette was more than spot on.
Mates, though Collette wasn’t really aware being human after all, were soulmates for wolves. If they could have them, humans must too but they could never receive the same feelings that two wolves would get meeting each-other. Laviania never wanted to find her mate, it was too much.
Her past was scarring, she didn’t need the complication of some guy trying to play the hero all the time. That and the potential pain of him rejecting her- what if he did? Despite not wanting a mate it would still hurt to not be enough for them. Whoever they were though, she planned to steer well clear of.
Collette waved Lavi goodbye and headed down the hallway towards the stairs that lead to the library. Watching her friend leave, a habit Laviania had gained since the first day they spoke, the girl waited until she could no longer see the black and grey trainers Cole owned before she turned back to her locker.
“Cole’s nice,” Rae mumbled emotionlessly in Lavi’s head,” Shegives us food,”
Sighing, Laviania closed the small blue door facing her and leaned against it,”That is true, but it is unfair to rely on her,”
“Good point,” Rae soon ceased to speak as silence rang in the teen’s mind.
A strange scent suddenly wrapped around her nose, it was sweet- a scent of cinnamon and vanilla. Oh how Laviania missed eating sweet buns on the meadow with her mother and sister. Those days were obviously over now but the scent flourished so much that she had to breathe out. Relaxation crept all over her body, a feeling she hadn’t been for quite a few years.
She was soon aware that the hallway had become quite, silenced. Opening one eye Laviania peered down the hallway. Girls were giggling and some squealed as a shadowed figure began walking up the hallway in her direction, the scent becoming stronger with each step he took.
No.
No this couldn’t happen to her.
Laviania shook her head and turned around, he shouldn’t know who she is. She couldn’t become involved with a mate- things would get messy. Her mate would be obsessive or the complete opposite.
There was a strong presence behind her as she tried to focus on the insides of the locker- she had opened the door in a desperate attempt to get a different scent.
“Mate! Mate!”Rae exclaimed, her excitement causing headaches to bang around Lavi’s head- not helping the pain she already felt.
Laviania felt a sudden weakness rush to her head but she tried to force it down as Rae’s happiness increased,” He can help us, turn around- we need to see him. Imagine feeling his scent or his arms around us,”
“No, no,” Lavi whispered, the weakness causing her knees to buckle.
Stumbling backwards, a pair of strong arms entangled her. At first she fell into them, a robust feeling of safety and security surrounded her. Then realisation hit her as she tried to get out of his hold, this couldn’t be happening.
“Hey be careful,” A soft velvet voice warned, part of her-a very small part she liked to think- wanted him to speak more.
She was put slowly onto her feet, her back still facing him. With hesitant and delayed steps Laviania turned around to face him. Her breath hitched in her throat at the sight of him.
Dark tanned skin belonged to him, as well as bright emerald eyes. Flames resided in his irises, showing his strong passion. Brown fawn hair sat messily on his head, small curls dropping onto his forehead. Every part of him was perfect, yet that was to worst part.
She didn’t deserve to be with him, he shouldn’t have to put up with all the baggage that came with her. Rae would hate her for leaving him but in the end even she would want the best for her beloved mate (even if Laviania didn’t think of him that way).
“Ajax!” A female voice shouted half-angry and half-caring, it sounded slightly familiar to Laviania’s ears.
Ajax, the name suited him. It sounded rather god-like.
A very red-faced girl appeared to the side of him- she had short brown hair. Lavi’s eyes widened as she focused on her features and realised who she was. Why did it have to be her?
It was the woman from the apartment.
The woman’s eyes locked onto her and realisation overcame her features. Backing into the locker quickly, Laviania winced at the loud slamming noise as it hurt her ears. Ajax scanned her with a slightly worried glare.
“Thanks for catching me but I have to-“
“You are not escaping twice!” The girl warned and launched herself at Laviania.
Forcing her already fatigued legs to run off, Lavi raced down the corridor and out of the door. Light pierced her skin and pain clenched her legs but she strongly ignored it. Rae winced as the school got further away and as did Ajax’s scent.
Breathing got difficult but that was the least of her concerns as the scent was following her chasing her. If Ajax knew who she really was that would end things. He probably just suspected she was an ordinary human.
Trees soon engulfed her, how long had she been running? She didn’t know.
Branches were being pushed desperately out of her way as some slammed into her face anyway. Dirt and cuts covered her cheeks but she continued to force her way through.
A root in the ground tripped her up. She tumbled onto the ground, the bone in her ankle clicked and an unbearable pain shot up it. Numbness crept in her ankle, halting any further movement.
The scents of the pair chasing her got closer and closer. Wincing, Lavi awaited her fate.
