The Teddy bear

Trees that had surrounded the small clearing seemed to close in on them in a matter of seconds. Darkness shrouded the area, yet the sun roared high in the sky without a single cloud blocking it. Deathly cold wind wrapped around the trunks and branches, making them swish a menacing wave. Yet the only sound Ajax could possibly make out was his mate’s withering sobs. Each time her shoulders tensed as she wept, Ajax couldn’t deny the heavy metal clamp around his heart. It wrenched with every one of her sharp intakes of breath. This girl had grown like ivy around his mind. Every waking minute was spent thinking about her, thinking about what was his. Had someone already took that? “What did you say?” He wheezed out after what seemed like forever. Laviania still remained on the floor, covered in a thick cement of mud that wouldn’t let her free. She knew she had said too much; he now wouldn’t want her anymore. At least a death here would be more peaceful than at the hands of her previous captor. She looked up at with a bleak look,” Do it. Kill me,” “What?” Ajax stepped back in shock. His wolf internally whined as Lavi hung her head back down and slumped on the floor. She was still conscious but she was giving up on herself,” I don’t want to kill you,” “I’m impure, you’re going to reject me,” She mumbled emotionlessly, her voice still quivering yet eerily monotone,” You might as well kill me while you’re at it,” Even though the truth behind the words stung, Ajax wasn’t angry at her. Not at all. This wasn’t his precious mate’s fault but it was the bastard’s who did it. With a death-like growl, Ajax turned away. He didn’t want to scare her with his seething anger,” Who was he?” “He was an alpha,” Lavi answered slowly, still not looking up from her place on the ground. Rain began to pound around then, slithering around the closed up trees. It didn’t matter, they both knew the forest’s greenery wouldn’t make a good umbrella in the storm that was to come. “Which pack?” Ajax kept insisting, he needed to know. Shaking her head rapidly, Lavi felt fresher hotter tears rushing down her face,” I don’t know. It is all a blur now. I see him in my nightmares yet my brain forgets his face. When I think about him its clear, when I need to know him it is not. I know he did it, I know what he did,” With a sigh, Ajax turned and walked towards her until he was towering her. Kneeling, he lifted her chin up so they could face each other. So many emotions rushed around her eyes, but for once he could see her love above her fear. She did feel the bond; he knew the fear she felt was of loosing him. Encasing her in a rich hug, he muttered soothing words as she cried deeply into his chest. How could he have been so blind? He was a terrible mate; he would have to make up for how he treated her earlier but he had no clue how. As he moved his hands along her arms, he felt a sharp object sticking out of her skin. All of her limbs were covered in blood and shards of glass. They would need to get back soon before her skin healed like that. “One last thing please sweetheart,” Ajax begged quietly, cradling her head in his chest,” What was his name?” She looked up at him with sincere eyes,” I know his name was Winston,” Silence was a rare thing at Ajax’s pack house. Even in the early hours of the morning there was always small amounts of chatter. Whether it was coming from the small children who would sneak out and play or the adults who had just finished patrol, there was always noise. Currently, it was midday yet there was nothing. Rumours spread like wildfire. Everyone was burning to hear about what their new ‘Luna’ had done. Some even threw in more gasoline to the flames by trying to piece together her past, there was some strange smoke that veiled her- everyone would rather ignite than extinguish it. It had been an hour since Ajax and Laviania had returned, there gossiping had been doused to ashes. Not wanting to cause a fight, Lavi ignored the hard gazes by following Ajax as closely as she could. There was no way she would be accepted now. “Wait in the library for a bit,” Ajax said softly to her, she nodded and opened the massive doors. Despite the small size of the room, the masses of bookshelves made it seem large. Laviania could feel the many stories and tales that could be explored. She longed to spend an afternoon reading, it had been a while since she had actually read a book. There were three sofas sat at the end of the room underneath a massive window made of clear glass. Each of the chairs were a deep red and had a smallish coffee table in the middle of them with a cactus plant on top. Lavi’s ears suddenly perked up as she heard light sniffles from behind the corner couch. As she neared, they got louder and less secretive. “Are you okay?” Laviania asked tenderly, peering over the edge of the seat to see a young girl with brown hair crying. The little girl moved her brown hair out of her eyes to reveal light fawn freckles. Her eyes were bright green and really worked well with her olive skin. Lavi couldn’t deny that she was very beautiful despite her young age. With a shake of her head, the little girl suddenly jumped up into Laviania’s arms. Stepping back, she realised the girl didn’t weigh a lot but the sudden shock caused her to stumble slights. Luckily, she still remained balanced with the little girl in her arms. “You’re alright little one,” Lavi promised, soothing the little girl’s hair down with her hand. After her crying ceased, Laviania put the child down onto the ground and kneeled so they were facing each other. With a smile, she tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear causing the girl to giggle lightly. “Now can you tell me what happened?” She asked again, the child didn’t seem to well up this time. “My brother and his friends took my favourite teddy bear and broke it,” The little girl sighed sadly,” Look it is over here!” Running back behind the sofa and bought out a red bear. The arm was in her other hand, stuffing coming out of where it once was. There was also a hole in its chest. Giving the toy to Laviania, the little girl ran back once again and took out a small little heart that looked like a box. “This heart beats when you press it,” The little girl pressed it and just that happened,” It was inside the bear but they ripped it out,” Her lip quivered as if she was going to burst again, Lavi quickly had to think,” I can try to fix it but it might not be the same,” This excited the little girl as she grabbed Lavi’s hand and raced out of the library. Despite the glass still in her skin, she didn’t want to disappoint the little girl. “What is you name?” Lavi wheezed out when they finally reached what she assumed was the kitchen. “I am Octavia,” Octavia replied,” You must be Laviania, our new Luna,” Lavi froze as the little girl continued to speak,” People have said you did a horrible thing this morning but I know that it was that horrible lady who cut herself rather than you attacking her. I was hiding from my brother when it happened. Are you okay? You jumped out of the window,” Nodding, Laviania looked in many of the drawers for a small sewing kit. She quickly found it and sat at the small island in the kitchen, helping Octavia to get up onto one of the large bar stools that surrounded it. It took a while but soon the little bear was repaired. Octavia cheered with glee and hugged it close, laughing as she heard the beat of the heart inside it. “Lets go watch a film!” Octavia exclaimed, before Lavi could complain she was dragged into the living room next door which was strangely unoccupied. Within five minutes the opening credits of a film called ‘The Little Mermaid’ was playing before them. Lavinaia and Octavia cuddled on the sofa together but barely saw half of the film before they both fell asleep. Whilst Lavi slept peacefully, Ajax frantically searched for his mate who seemed to have left the library.
