Soft blankets encased a red haired girl who curled up into them invitingly. She had been this way for the past day, a whole twenty-four hours of sleep. Stress was being reduced by the second, you could see it easily from the way her usually furrowed eyebrows relax and the lines in her forehead ceasing to exits. Every minute that drips past she seems to become healthier.
Yet the same couldn’t be said for her mate. He had been pacing up and down the room since the moment she began her slumber in the cells. His forehead was creasing, marking him permanently. Worry and stress envelop his mind as he waits, less than patient but not impatient, for his beloved to awaken.
Groaning, Laviania rose from the bed in a confused state. She hadn’t suffered from a nightmare, maybe this part was it. Soon she would awaken back in the cells to the horrible reality.
“You’re awake!” A tired hoarse voice exclaims.
Looking up, Lavi’s eyes met Ajax’s. For a moment relief flooded through her that he was here- she wanted to bundle into his arms forever. As quickly as the feeling surfaced it disappeared into the depths of her heart; replaced with a cold and angered stare.
Studying the room once more she tried, but failed, not to relish in the scent of her mate- it was his damn room,” Why am I here?”
“After the rouge incident you fainted,” Ajax explained softly, sitting on the bed and staring at her with loving eyes,” I bought you here so you would be comfy. You have been asleep for over a day,”
Shock overcame her face. In all honesty she didn’t feel as if she had slept that long. Her legs ached as did the rest of her limbs. Laviania sighed heavily and yawned, though it was the best sleep she has had in a while. At least it wasn’t outside. Yet it felt alien to sleep in actual bed.
“Thanks I guess,” She mumbled, pulling her knees up and resting her head on them.
Silence fell upon the two. It was awkward and tense, like they both wanted to say something but couldn’t bring themselves to.
Bored of the quiet, Lavi let her eyes flow around the room. Ajax was a typical jock. Many sports flags, footballs and signed shirts sat on the walls. Personally, Laviania couldn’t stand sport. She would have to change his room to fit her style a bit better. Wait, what was she thinking? It wasn’t like she was going to stick around.
The bed was covered in a thick black duvet, completely clean and creaseless despite Lavi sleeping in it. In contrast, the bedframe was pure white- most likely crafted out of some kind of mahogany wood. Next to the bed was a cabinet, either side and the same shade as the frame.
Overall the room felt a bit mismatched. It was as if Ajax was trying to be himself but was restricted by something. Lavi just felt uncomfortable looking at the clashing colours and design.
“Let’s get you some food,” Ajax said, cutting the silence suddenly.
With a faint nod, Lavi got out of the bed. From over a day of being asleep, her legs were weak due to not being used. Stumbling forwards, she was caught by two secure heavy arms that clasped around her waist.
“Careful,” Ajax chuckled, setting her back onto her feet- face bright red; blushing.
Rushing out of the door, Laviania ran down the hallway. Then it hit her that she didn’t actually know where the kitchen was.
About twenty minutes wandering around the endless halls later, Lavi confirmed that she was in fact lost. Much to her humiliation. Everywhere looked the same with the similar red carpet and portraits of past alphas she presumed.
With a frustrated groan, Lavi threw her hands over her face,” Why did I have to be easily embarrassed?”
As soon as she mumbled those words a purple haired girl hurried around the corner. Thin as a stick, she strutted along the crimson carpet in lofty black stilettos. Hair in a tight bun, she gawked at Lavi with a face overdone by makeup and eyeliner.
“Who are you?” She hissed, walking over.
With the heels, she towered over Lavi, however she didn’t feel any intimidation. Laviania gave her a very hard glare, maybe she should learn to respect others. God, she was speaking as if she was a Luna.
“That’s because you are going to be one!” Rae whistled happily in her head, doing flips around her mind.
Wincing, Lavi turned their communication off. Whenever Rae got excited, a headache would always come on. It could be because she rarely was this happy anymore. Maybe it was going to change.
“I am Laviania,” She replied, returning to the situation at hand,” You could say I am a friend of Ajax,”
The last part made her heart swell, she was more than a friend to Ajax. As much as she didn’t want to admit it. There was a connection, pull, that she couldn’t shift. Slowly she was falling for him. Heck, she even blushed.
Scowling, the purple-haired fool growled at Laviania,” I am Cheyenne. Don’t get any ideas. Ajax is mine,”
Snorting, the red-head returned the ice cold look she was receiving. Did this woman really think she had some claim on her mate? The thought of someone else touching Ajax made her veins pulsate and adrenaline run.
“Well I hate to break it you but I am his mate,” She practically shouted, her teeth were barred and snarls ripped from her chest.
With a mix of surprise, shock, and anger the purple haired girl returned Laviania’s snarls with growls. Taking a fighting stance, she prepared to fight the lunatic who thought she could take Ajax away.
“You’re feral!” Cheyenne screeched, Lavi paused; dropping her arms to her sides in defeat.
A smirk overcame Cheyenne’s face as she put her left hand on her arm, claws extended,” So, so feral,”
Quickly, Cheyenne dug her long nails into her arm and pulled them down to her wrist. Despite the pain she continued to smile, an evil aura resounding around her. Blood dripped down from her arm and onto the floor.
Then she screamed.
Heart racing, Lavi struggled to breathe as she felt the walls closing in. Everything began to blur as more figures came into the hall. She couldn’t recognise any, her senses were cut off.
Suddenly, she was pushed to the ground by some blonde who held her there tightly. They were shouting at her- calling her many things but nothing she could comprehend.
She felt someone clawing at her face, dragging their nails to her chin. Her body felt frozen, she couldn’t move. It had barely been two days and she was already having another panic attack.
“Laviania!” Rae ordered,” You need to run. They think you hurt her. They’ll lock us up forever. That can’t happen again,”
Tears prickled at her eyes as she pushed the body on top of her as lightly as she could. The person fell to the ground and hissed but she didn’t have time to ask if they were okay. All she knew was that she needed to escape before someone captured her.
With no idea where the exit was, Laviania only had one choice- the window.
Shouts erupted behind her as she felt hands barely miss grabbing her. None of them belonged to Ajax, her heightened sense of smell would have found him if that were the case. Maybe then she wouldn’t be launching herself through glass.
Smashing through the weak frame, shards of the shiny glass pierced her skin or shattered to the ground below. Covering her eyes, Laviania tried not to cry out from the pain but as usual she was too busy escaping to worry about it.
As much as she was done playing the victim, Lavi felt that her life would never be better. Maybe she was doomed to run around pack territories, a rouge barely living life. There was no more hope, the future was bleak.
Turns out they were on the second floor, landing wasn’t so much of a problem. At least there was now silence as those involved were too shocked to continue chasing her.
It was dangerous for her to shift when she was like this. The shards of glass could infuse into her fur and cause her more unwanted pain. She had enough of her pain. She had enough of her own suffering.
However, she ignored her worries and shifted anyway. Her wolf howled but she was no longer in control, Rae was. Her whitish fur glistened in the sunlight as she raced through the forest.
Winding trees tried to attack her but she dodged them effortlessly. Soon the thought of escape powered her veins to push her muscles further. At least during this run she wouldn’t be as badly injured as she was when she first tried to escape Ajax.
After at least an hour of running, Lavi was positive she would soon reach the end of the territory. After she passed the border she could be free to do and go wherever she wanted to, within reason.
Then she remembered the rouge incident yesterday.
They were after her.
Now back in her human form, Lavi covered her naked form as she screamed bloody murder. She was a murderer; she had killed someone. Ajax probably thought she was insane. Today would make him reject her, then she would be alone again.
They wouldn’t let her stay in the pack, she would have to leave Collette.
Tears continued to fall as she realised she would be chased down and killed wherever she was. They were after her. They were after her. They were after her.
The thought kept replaying itself in her mind. She would be alone with no one for the rest of her life. With no necklace to protect her she wouldn’t be able to hide within another territory, she would be doomed to fend for herself.
Now a crying ball on the floor, Laviania curled up as the rain fell onto her pale skin. Mud clenched to her legs, reminding her of the nightmare she constantly had. No longer was it just a memory but now it was happening again.
Rustling in the bushes caused her to look up in fright. Out of them roamed a massive wolf, fur pure black, towering and strong. Instantly she knew it was Ajax, his scent flooded her nose and caused her to relax.
Bowing her head down, she whimpered. Self-consciously, she covered herself with her thin arms. As she shivered in the cold she waited for him to become a human again and reject her. Even the mere thought of this made her heart clench.
She was so lost in her fears she didn’t notice he had shifted back until a shirt was pulled over her head. A pair of shorts were thrust into her hands and she slipped them on quickly.
“I am sorry. I…I-“
“Save it Laviania,” Ajax coldly snarled, she felt a hole in her chest from the harsh stare he gave her,” You attacked one of my closest friends and then broke a window trying to escape from me again. I cannot keep up with all of your mood swings and the constant change of your mind is making it impossible to be your mate. Now you are crying acting as if you are the victim. Look we have all suffered in our lifetime but how we choose to deal with it is up to you,”
Her tears ceased,” So you won’t even ask me what happened? You don’t even know what happened to me yet you think you can judge my life? If you want to know, she claimed you were hers and then she scratched herself. Go ahead and sniff my nails- there is no blood of hers there,”
Tears formed again and fell down her cheeks as she watched the realisation hit Ajax’s face like a ton of bricks. Reaching to touch her, a look of hurt overcame him when she refused by backing away.
“Don’t touch me,” Lavi warned,” Don’t ever touch me again. I didn’t ask for my life to be like this so don’t guilt trip me,”
“I am not trying to guilt trip you,” Ajax growled back,” You shouldn’t act so defensive over everything. What is so wrong about me touching you? I only want to love you as a mate and not an enemy,”
With a dreadful cry, Laviania slammed her fists to her sides,” That’s what he said and it was all a horrible, horrible lie,”
At this point she was sobbing uncontrollably, Ajax was too confused and conflicted to comfort her.
”Who is he?” He asked with a shaking voice- did she have another mate?
“The man who r***d me,” Lavi breathlessly whispered, her voice hoarse from the pure fear of what she was saying, but Ajax heard.
