Chapter 4

1058 Words
Memory lane switches to 5 years after that first memory of her. To my surprise she hasn’t gotten tired of my antics yet. But instead just learns to anticipate them. It’s almost like she knows what I'm going to do or say before I even do.  Like this one time when I was 19 but turning 20 later that month, I was sneaking out to go see my at the time boyfriend. I had made sure to check the surroundings to make sure that nobody could see me sneaking out. I knew that if I was caught it wouldn’t end well for me. My dad had always been super strict with me growing up. I knew it was because he wanted to make sure that I was safe but that didn’t mean that I liked it. I just wanted to be just like the other girls that I went to school with. I knew that when I got invited to this party that it would be the perfect chance to get away from everything and just let myself think that I was normal. Even if it was for only a couple hours. That would be better than nothing I had told myself when I had jumped down off of the tree that I had been descaling. And to my shock and slight horror, I fell right into Rose's waiting arms. “So, thought that you could sneak past me huh?” She said to me with a smirk. I tried to twist out of her grasp but she held firm. “I thought I had the perfect route that you wouldn't see me!” I crossed my arms over my chest as best I could, considering that she was carrying me back to the house.  “Yea well that doesn’t really work when I already knew of that one and countless others that you could have taken. Not to mention I was expecting you to do something like this.” “Oh really?” “Yup. you always have signs of when you are going to do something that you are not supposed to.” “Like what?” If I could figure out my tells then it would be easier to hide them from her in the future. She laughs “Oh KitKat if I told you then you would know. And what fun is that?” She teased me. Damn she’s good. She’s not like the other guard that I had when I was about 7. That guard would tell me anything I wanted to know if I just looked at him in the right way. That’s probably why he got fired. Cause he would tell me anything I wanted to know but he was also good at keeping secrets from my mom and dad. And apparently my parents didn’t like  that about him.  Granted I knew that Rose was different. She always had been but that didn’t mean that I didn’t try out my old tricks every now and then. She expertly navigates the house and drops me off in my bed.  “Now that you're back, Don't leave again. Don’t make me spend the night in your room to make sure that you don't leave.” My heartbeat quickens at the thought. But not in fear. It’s almost like it's in anticipation. Like I want it to happen. Just to see what would happen. I smirk at her . Trying my best to look and sound like a bratty teenager. “What if I just tell you that I’m gonna sneak out when you fall asleep?” I say to her tauntingly. I can see amusement in her eyes but also a little bit of puzzlement. It almost looked like she was trying to figure out if I really would just try and sneak out again. Looking me over she must come to a conclusion and she said “Hmm.” She taps her chin in thought. “It would be easier to keep an eye on you if I was in the same room.” She walks over my couch that is in my room and gets comfortable. I stare at her in disbelief.  “You're really going to stay the night in my room?” I asked her incredulously.  “Of course I am. It would take so much energy to go after you and find this party that you want to go to so bad. And honestly I don't feel like tracking you down if you keep good to your word. So yes, you will have me as a roommate tonight.” I stand there for another couple heartbeats and dawns on me that she's serious. I can feel myself frown as I think about the party that I will be missing tonight. It would have been so much fun to go to but I couldn’t exactly sneak out now that she was in the same room as me or could I? I could just wait until she’s asleep and sneak out. I mentally shrug. It’s worth a shot. So to play along, instead of fighting her on it, I just wordlessly walk over to my closet and I get some blankets. I walk back over to the couch that is set up right under my bedroom window. I hand them to her.  “Goodnight KitKat” She says as she settles down and pulls the blanket that I handed to her up to her chin. I could have sworn that as soon as she did that she was already asleep.  I start to think that if she truly is asleep then maybe my plans for the night aren’t ruined. After all if I sneak out now I could still make it to the party and just be fashionable late.  After about an hour had passed I quietly crept over to the door. As quietly as I could I walked back over to the door on the opposite side of the room. Taking care to turn the knob to the bedroom door as quietly as I could. I managed to open the door and sneak out of my room. Not wanting to jinx the stroke of good luck I was on I still stayed quiet until I was out of the house. I was just about to do a victory dance when I thought I was in the clear. Until I was at the front gates to the house and I saw Rose standing there examining her fingernails nonchalantly.
