Chapter 3

746 Words
Vaguely, I feel somebody start to pick me up, and I hear Rose practically growl at them but it’s muffled due to the ringing hat I have in my ears. My vision is starting to get blurry and I don't know how much longer I can hold on. Somebody shoves something over my stomach and I cry out in pain and I start to see stars at the edges of my vision.   “Don’t f*****g touch her! I will take care of her.” I feel the hands that grab me tighten around me when they hear my cry of pain and all I can think about is how Rose sounds. Is that fear in her voice? Is it fear that she couldn’t protect me or fear of losing me?  Strong arms caress my shoulders and behind my knees as Rose picks me up. I cry out in pain again as the hands grasp me. That alone was almost enough to knock me out. Somehow I managed to hang on to my fleeting consciousness a little bit longer. “Don’t you dare fall asleep on me, KitKat.” I faintly smile at the nickname that she had given me so long ago. I must have passed out at this point because I could no longer hear the words that she was telling me and my walk down long forgotten memories started.  My name is Katherine but when she first met me I was in the middle of a really bad break up and was eating kitkats on my living room sofa.   “That bad huh?” She sat down in front of me. I look up and see a woman walking towards me. This must be the new body guard that my parents hired to protect me. I can’t complain cause she is like a goddess. She has a very nicely toned figure that shows that she knows what she's doing and the air about her seems to say ‘don’t mess with me unless you want to end up on the ground.’ Her long black hair hangs down to her waist and is thick like a curtain. When she comes close enough I can  see her eyes are jade green. They are filled with sympathy and another emotion that I can’t put my finger on. When I stare into her eyes I can feel my own eyes well up with tears again. I realize then that they are the same shade of green that my ex’s were. “You have no idea. He broke up with me for another girl. And it was my best friend!” Tears fell down my face as I shoved another piece of candy into my mouth. At the time I didn't even know why I was telling her all of these things. Maybe it’s cause knew that she was going to be my personal guard for a long time. Or maybe it’s because in my subconscious I knew that she was going to mean more to me than I could imagine. But for whatever reason, I let all my emotions out. Well the emotions about the betrayal of my now ex-best friend and ex- boyfriend that is. No need to overload this woman that I just met. She’ll hear about the rest of my problems in time if she stays. “Well, f**k them. If they can't see that you are amazing then they don't need to be in your life. You should be thankful that you found it. I agree it's shitty that you found out this way but hey at least you weren’t married to the fucknugget when it happened.” She gave me a gentle smile. At the mention of the word fucknugget I couldn't help but laugh. Most people didn't curse around me because of my status. But she had never had a problem doing it. That made me like her a lot more than the others that had been assigned to me in the past.  “See I even got you to laugh. Now let’s go do something fun to get your mind off of those two.” She smiled at me and extended her hand to me. I didn’t even hesitate to take her hand and let her lead me away. Anything was better than sitting there feeling sorry for myself. When I grabbed her hand she used her other one to wipe away my tears from my cheeks and that's the way it has been since I was 15. She was 18 at the time.
