Chapter 2

613 Words
The thing that wasn’t supposed to happen though was I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with Rose. I know that she is my personal guard and that her job is the most serious out of all of them.  I know that it sounds stupid but it’s true. She’s the one that is supposed to put my life before her own and she is the one that technically signed a contract saying that while she was employed with my family she could not pursue other relationships that could possibly put my life in danger or take her focus away from me.  So maybe that’s why I fell for her like I did. It makes sense.  But when I start to think about the way she walks the walk she talks to me when nobody else is around, the way she holds me when I cry. How can I not fall for her? How could I not notice the way her hair shines in the moonlight when we go on walks at night? How could I not notice the way her smile lights up her whole face when she looks at me doing something silly? Or I guess the better questions are why do I notice these things about her?  I don't even know if this is love or if I’m just grateful that she's stayed longer than any of my other body guards.  If I did love her in that way I don't know if my feelings would be returned or not. That's what scares me. I have wanted to ask her so many times but i was always afraid of the answer. Like what if she didn't like girls? What if she was just waiting for her contract to end so that she could go back to the life that doesn;t have me in it? What if she already had a girlfriend that was waiting for her to come back? Those are the thoughts that go through my head that make my stomach hurt and my heart ache.  I shake my head to get rid of these thoughts. I’ll just have to cross that bridge when we get there and if she does leave that's just what happens.  Rose side glances at me and raises an eyebrow in question. I subconsciously shift close to Rose, and lean in to tell her what’s on my mind but then all thoughts are lost. Searing pain explodes from my arm and my upper thigh.  I try to grasp her arm to just keep myself upright and she turns her head to me in horror. I feel unsteady on my feet and I start to feel myself sway. My eyelids are fluttering, making it hard to discern what's going on around me.  “She’s been shot! Get the rest of the team!” Rose shouts at the nearby guards. I can hear the ringing of the shots but almost like it’s from a distance. I can feel the blood welling up through the holes that apparently were made by bullets. My stomach turns as I can feel my blood start to run down my arms and soak through my clothes. I can’t tell what’s going on right now just that my body has gone into a state of shock.  Just as I was trying to piece together what is happening I can feel the third bullet enter my stomach and I fall over from the sheer amount of pain that this is causing me. I try to put my hand over my stomach to staunch the bleeding but my hand is too weak and all that really happens is my feeling my blood pouring out of my body.
