Stella didn’t come after me, it upset me a bit but maybe we do need a little space. Walked around looking for a nice spot. I saw glowing in the distance and followed it. Then I heard whispers and followed it, suddenly I felt even more sleepy than I was and passed out.
When I awoke I was in a room. “Hello?” I called out. “Um where am I? Hello?” I got out the bed I was placed in, I was utterly confused.
Suddenly I heard. “She’s awake, she’s awake”
I followed the voice and noticed I was in a very small village, I looked around and saw dwarfs. I had never met a dwarf before, they’re not easy to find. We know they’re around, they’re not a large population but they’re here and not a secret. They’re not too different from humans, they just like to be apart of our world instead of the human one, they also have different biology which humans might take advantage of or experiment on them. Humans don’t like what’s different and feel the need to know how anything different is from the inside.
“Hello Ms.”
I frowned and looked down. “Yes?”
It was a dwarf woman. “I’m the president of this village.”
I raised my eyebrow. “Oh this is a democracy? Like how many humans live in?”
She nodded and hit her cane against the rubble. “Yes a democracy. I’d like to apologize for- hm I wish there was a better word for this, k********g you.”
I scratched the top of my flatly laid ponytail. “Oh?” I chuckled nervously. “Why’d you do that?”
The president turned her back to me and waved for me to follow. “I overheard your argument with your girlfriend as I-“
“She’s not my girlfriend.” I interrupted.
I heard a chuckle and she turned her head to shoot me a glance at the corner of her eye. “Excuse me you’re a dragon right? I meant your mate then.”
I couldn’t necessarily deny that. This just wasn’t something Stella wanted to get out. Yes I’m mad at her but that doesn’t mean I want to go against her word or anything. “What does that have to do with the reason you kidn*pped me?”
“I saw myself in you.” She walked to a house in a giant tree in the middle of the village, the trees leaves and branches covered the entire village it was huge. It also has a shielding spell. This is why dwarfs were hard to find they have mages help there homes stay hidden.
“May I ask how?” I followed her into the house when she lightly gestured.
“You don’t seem emotionally stable.” She chuckled and I frowned. “You also know what you want, who you want. You’re not afraid to take risks to get what you want or at least the best out of the situation. I didn’t mean you any harm by taking you. I just saw an potential allay and someone in need of some advice.”
I didn’t think too much about what she said.“She says people won’t understand,”
The president sat down on her couch. “Maybe you need to give her space. Respect her choices, don’t get mad at her because she wants you just as much at you want her. So to see you hurting and begging only makes the situation even harder on her. “
I frowned and almost tripped over the wood coming up from the floor board. “She doesn’t see it the way I do, I don’t want to just ignore our feelings and go our separate ways.” Even just thinking about it upset me “I want to enjoy each other now and then if necessary go our separate ways at least with the memory of what we had.”
“But as you said she sees it differently. Respect it and maybe she’ll come around.”
I just couldn’t understand, I barley wanted to. “Have you ever been um…”
“In love?” She knocked her cane on the wood below her. “Ofc course, also with a woman.”
I looked shocked. “And you’re still in a position of authority, do your subjects know?”
She looked at me smugly. “Yes, they voted for me knowing I was married to a woman. This isn’t a place that relies on blood lines and heirs. My wife, she grew sick a while ago.”
My face showed my pity for her I felt so bad. “She died?”
She looked away and towards the wall made out of bark of the tree. “No, no, she’s away getting treated in another village like this that has a better doctor for her specific case, she’s getting better. When you loved someone for a long time or short time, it’s hard to see them go away. If I knew she wasn’t coming back even with the time we shared I’d be broken. Of course id think it was worth it but not for her I wouldn’t want that for here, to be broken. That must be how your mate feels about you.”
I turned my head and looked out the window the sun was raising and I thought deeper about what the president told me. “I understand now. I don’t feel the same way as the two of you, does that make me selfish?”
“Dear child no of course not.”
I walked away from the window leaving behind the fresh air. “I think we’re both strong enough to deal with the pain.”
She watched me with her blinking eyes. “But she doesn't feel like she's strong enough to deal with her own pain and the pain of knowing her mate is in pain. At least you now understand, It was nice meeting you, you may go if you wish.”
“Like wise and um yes please consider us allies.” I left the tree and strolled through the village.
I walked out out the village and nothing looked familiar. I checked my pocket and felt something in it. And pulled it out and it was a necklace. I kept it there I realized it was a departing gift.
My eyes lit up completely blue, I lost control over my own body, my head got foggy. I started walking while chanting.
