ZARA: I never imagined I would step foot in the Alpha’s chambers again. Even though it had been my dream, I didn’t think it would happen so soon. The chambers had grown quieter since the attack; it was a shock to many, and while most praised him for his bravery, others had already begun to doubt his authority. I suppose that was inevitable. Alpha Maximus lay propped against his pillows, skin pale like milk, bandages tight around his ribs. He hated the pillows, I could tell. Every time Dr. Barkley adjusted them he growled low in his chest, glaring as if the man had asked him to step down as Alpha. It was, absurdly, a little funny.
