By the time they reached Caroline Street, it wasn’t just Fenn that could feel the Carnas, although they were clearly most heavily affected by it as they reconvened on the pavement. Lew could feel it too, and he could see that Grant was having to block out the sticky, oily, cloying energy in order to keep Fenn on their feet.
“I’m so sorry, Mrs. Finn,” Lew said, as they stepped inside, past her bloodless grip on the door. “I’m so sorry. I think it was draining him. I don’t think it’s what killed him, but I don’t think it’s helped.” He paused and put a hand on her arm. “Fenn thinks it’s back behind the houses somewhere. Can you think where it might be?”
