Chapter 25: Camden Alec Fenn was certain that the Carnas was still sleeping. That gave them a breathing space. She also confirmed that the rough and ready salt-and-oil defense Kelly had taught them in the winter would have some effect. Alec had first-hand knowledge about that himself—he could still hear the sounds the Creature had made during their first encounter, when he had flung a lamp full of burning oil over it in the basement at Mile End Hospital. Fenn was reluctant to hurt the creature. She needed it for her own purpose and seemed to have an almost empathic understanding of the thing.
