AKIN I walked back dejectedly to the same spot where she had been taken, only now there were paramedics on the scene. I spotted Desire in an ambulance and walked up to her. She was on a bed with a paramedic attending to her. She had blood stains on the left side of her shoulder where the bullet must've gone through. I stayed out of sight, hanging by the side of the door. I couldn't face her after I'd lost our daughter. I was holding her hand and she was snatched away from me. I should have held on tighter. Tears fell down my face and my eyes closed. "Akin," Desire called out and my eyes snapped open. She was sitting up in bed and staring at me with a question in her eyes. Where's our daughter? "I'm sorry." Her face crumbled as the words left my mouth. "No," she said in a whisper.
