Chapter Five
The blood red sun came up slowly over the trees, throwing out long shadows as Lily and Aiden got ready for another day. Every wolf in the camp was tense waiting for an attack to come.
Come dawn the next day, lily and aiden´s face were drawn on girm relentlessness aspart of the rest fo wolves. The pack appeared almost to be on alert, each wolf had its roll in blocking. Aiden and Lily took to the outer edge, keeping an eye out for any dangers that might be homing in on their location.
Aiden's voice was low as they patrolled the rim of camp. We have to be even more alert. That the rogues will seek a bit of tarnish where our defences are concerned.
Lily nodded, her chest throbbing. “What if they break through?”
Aiden was matter-of-fact. We can fall back to the main camp and fight there. We need to protect Camp Heart at all costs.
The morning was surprisingly tense. Lily jumped at every rustle in the underbrush or snap of a twig. Her tired, but intent eyes skimmed the trees as she tried to spot even a leaf stirring.
It was noon when the first signs of something amiss arose. As the group of rogues managed to sneak closer and was approaching the perimeter line between camp with forest. The sentries of the pack yapped hastily to raise an alarm, and all at once the camp came thrilling to life.
Lily and Aiden quickly took up their places, feeling hearts racing through them. Clearly the rogues were massing for an assault. Then they struck fast, making a well-orchestrated attack at the pack's perimeters.
Aiden fought with great vigour that matched the wired energy flowing through the pack, precise and strong. Clarity I followed Lily, using my new dagger to ward off any of the rogues that came too close. The battle was savage; wolves got knocked together and roiled over, howling to be releasedorelease from life.
It did not stay walled for long but that turned out to be trouble since the rogues soon found a weak point in spite of all those toughies inside. It breached the perimeter in multiple places, and for this reason, the fighting got more heated. Lily flared with terror of rogues slipped in, but she stayed on course fighting her hardest.
Aiden seemed to be everywhere, and places far away at the same time, ordering ships of his best wolves here while he himself fought against a portion of the rogue pack. Lily was comforted by the fact that heby herside. It was no fear that propelled her at this point, but the burning determination in his eyes as he ran to keep pace.
The fight was long and brutal, but Lily saw the rouges starting to make their way in from behind us. Glancing at them seconds before do, she called for Aiden. He sent a few of his pack to secure the other side right away.
As the pack started to regain control over where they had breached, so too did the tide of battle. The rogues retreated, their attack hobbling as they found themselves faced with the determined defense of a pack. Lily and Aiden fought together, their killing exactness creating a seamless rhythm that aimed to push the rogues back.
As hours went by, the sun was starting to set. The generals abondaned their siege when the saw that whatever they tried was not going to work. Despite being fatigued, the pack was resilient and their lines were not breaking.
The camp was relieved only in that the last of rogues had vanished into wooded darkness for good. The pack members were all alive but broken, they had not failed to defend their home. Aiden and Lily took a look about at the destruction left in wake of the battle, feeling their winsin with equal parts fatigue.
The Alpha was coming towards them, a look of relief and exhaustion. “You fought bravely. We owe you a great debt.”
Aiden looked bone tired when he nodded. “We did what we had to do. What matters is that the pack remains in one piece.
Lily turned to look at Aiden again, impressed with him. She had been impressed by his bravery and ability to command the defense, and she admired him. Against all odds and disorder, they were able to protect the pack as well as prevent wingless ones from putting together possible unruly zombies (rogues).
While the pack had their wounds addressed, Lily and Aiden took a moment to themselves. The two joined each other and sat by the fire, finding mild solace in its warmth after everything they had been through.
“Lily,” a tired but relieved voice responded.
Aiden gave a small nod and grinned. “We did. It means that finally, we can get to work on the restoration and be ready for whatever is next.
The night seemed peaceful, after the clash of arms. The wolves in the camp howled and rallied. Back by the fire, Lily was at peace they had fought a big foe, and won.
Looking out at the camp, Lily and Aiden knew that this was far from even a halfway point of their journey. Rogue wolves might come back, along with a new set of adversities. A crucial win, all the same one that kept their peace intact for now.
And together, they greeted the night with a fresh breath of hope and resolve. They were ready for whatever the future brought, together.
