Things Fell Apart
Riele stood at a corner in the Brooklyn bridge subway station gazing into the nothingness. She didnt know where to go, where to stay, everything had come crashing down within the last couple of months.
She had no money, no clothes, no place to stay. Everything she thought she had, had been confiscated after she was found as a suspect for fraud. I guess this would have been the breaking point but it wasnt for Riele. This was nothing compared to the overwhelming feeling of sadness and betrayal that engulfed her, she was heartbroken at this point. She thought she could withstand the tough situations that had been facing but what she had seen that night had completely shattered her.......
She had bursted into the restaurant in a haste, expecting to see him with some lawyers trying to sort things out but, she got the shock of her life......seeing him there chatting away with Audrey, she paused deciding not to act rashly. But just as she was about to approach them again, she saw Dexter go down on a knee to propose......it couldn't have been a worse nightmare. She ran out as fast as she could greeted by the cold winter breeze, yet she kept running nonstop in the snow, tugging at her hair and screaming like crazy. It was a cold night so many people weren't outside but those who were outside were dumbfounded by the scene. She ended up scraping her knee due to a fall along the way but she kept running
She'd ran until she got to the Brooklyn bridge, there she stood with silent tears of pain.
Riele stopped crying and just stood as people went to and fro, she was like a statue frozen in place. Some people kept throwing her looks cause all she wore was a t-shirt and joggers and it was snowing crazy.
The woman watched from afar, she kept staring at the girl who stood by the edge of the bridge, she wondered if she was a beggar, but she didn't look like one.She couldn't help but wonder why such a young girl would be out here with blisters on her face without a sweater or something. Just then as she was watching, she saw the girl move closer to the edge of the bridge looking at the water beneath it, she was worried. She'd recognized the hunched shoulders and the hung head, those were signs, signs of a tired person. She once been tired of life and had planned on giving up right at that spot where the girl stood backing her. She moved closer slowly not to alarm her, and just as she was about to jumb, she held her shoulders from behind pulling her back.
Riele turned back to look at the person who wanted to ruin her plans. She saw a set of brown eyes filled with worry. She was a middle aged woman with with brown hair and an average height. She looked elegant but still gave off a caring aura. Riele kept staring in her eyes but the woman's shaky voice reaches her.
"Are you alright ?.....Did you get hurt?.." the woman asked with a voice full of concern and care that Riele burst into tears. The woman noticing who emotional Riele was, takes her to a corner and the gives her a moment to catch her breath.
When Riele is done crying the woman then hands her a handkerchief to wipe her tears. She looked miserable. As she wipes her tears, the woman surprises her by giving her a warm hug, she didnt know how to react but returned the hug, she needed it right now. It was at this point Riele realised how cold she was, she was shivering. The woman noticed and then got a cab to take them home.
Throughout, Riele could not bring herself to say a thing but only stare out the window. The woman stayed quiet far away and it was already late so the journey took time. The woman had so many questions to ask and she really wanted answers. Stealing a glance at the desolate girl leaning on the window with chapped lips and face full of blisters shivering due to the cold, she wanted to know how all this happened. She was compelled to reach out to her and figure out what was going on in her head.
Meanwhile, Riele just stared at the beautiful scenery of the Brooklyn night. Her mind was blank, and that was what she wanted. She disnt want to think.....think about anything. She wanted to forget everything as there was nothing worth remembering.
Soon, they reach the woman's house. It was a beautiful villa in the heart of Philadelphia PA.
After their arrival, Bliss Melody's help had taken Riele to her room and helped her change into more cozy clothes. The room that was given to Riele was spacious and clean. The walls were a mixture of milk and green colour and so were the furniture and accessories in the room.Though the place felt odd and distant as though it had been years someone lived in the room. Riele couldn't help but feel the urge to go outside, she was always someone who didn't know how to stay far from home and took time to adjust to new surroundings but....now even this new place seemed more warm than 'home'. Looking outside from the veranda, the view was amazing, shed never been to Philadelphia. The villa was also quite an impressive one though the structures looked quite old yet well maintained. The main building stood a long way from the gate and in between them was a standard fountain with crystal blue water flowing out of it at a steady pace. Going to the backyard, there was a garden by one side of the wall and by the other a structure that seemed like a storehouse or a wine cellar, she wasnt sure but either way, it was breathtaking.
Riele sat on one of the folding chairs by the poolside and looked at the beautiful night sky.
Melody stood at the veranda upstairs watching the girls every move. She was intrigued by her and wanted to know things about her......she didnt even know her name. Seeing the girl deep her legs into the freezing water, she ran down quickly and went to the poolside, arriving there, she quieted her steps to see the girl sitting at the edge of the pool, with a legs in the water looking at tge sky so intently that she hadn't noticed the bystander. Melody took her time to explore the girls facial looks, she had black wavy hair which stopped at her back with brown cat-like eyes. Her eyelashes were long and fluttered nonstop suddenly, she smiled and you could see a small dimple cross her cheeks but the smile didnt reach her eyes. What was she thinking about?
"Hey.....why stay out here......its pretty cold" Melody finally said in a hushed tone so as not to startle the girl. Riele only turned to her and smiled, she didnt say anything. Melody had come down with a blanket so using it, she wrapped Riele and took her inside. She was beginning to feel the girl was mute.
