Chapter 2The overcooked roast and underdone broccoli casserole foreshadowed the tense discussion attempted over the evening meal. It began with pleasantries, “How was your day, do you have any homework?” Mom asked without pausing between the two questions. To test my suspicion that neither of them would be tuned in enough to care what I answered, I replied with, “Fabulous day at school, thanks for asking. We had a sub for biology today, and you wouldn’t believe who it was...Satan.
