Chapter 7 The letters

    Eli relented to Violet's request however something flickered in his eyes.  Tension and what looked like worry.  No concern.  She couldn't determine what it was. She was quickly lost in his eyes while trying to decide. The stormy sea of his eyes held her, drew her in.  A clearing of a throat pulled her from her reverie.

   "Okay, what are your questions princess?" Eli pulled her back to the present with his gruff question.  tension wracking his body, why does she have to look at me like she can see everything I have ever done.  I need to concentrate and if she keeps looking at me like this I won't be able to. I need to watch for signs of her shifting.  Emotions are such a trigger in a new wolf and Alex has not phased yet he could get hurt, thought Eli waiting for her response.

"How did you become a werewolf?" Violet asked looking away quickly. "Were you bitten or something?" That caused Alex to burst out in laughter shaking his head.

 "That's just stories. You have to be born a werewolf Vi." Alex states still chuckling.

"So you're a wolf too?" Violet asked earnestly.

"Well, sort of. I haven't shifted yet.  Wolves normally phase for the first time between the age of 16 and 18 when you are a fully mature wolf.  I am only 16.  So it could be any day or year for me."  Alex said proudly.

"So what does that mean for me.  I am 20 and just, what did you call it "phased" or "shifted".  Why did it take me so long?"  Violet asked she was way calmer about this then she thought she would be. It helped she was pretending it was all a story.

    Eli is the one to reply to this question "I think it has to do with you being part human.  Your human part must have taken over and suppressed your wolf. You are a late bloomer because you didn't know about this way of life." 

"Late bloomer nice one Eli," Alex replies "It's not like she is going through puberty. I think you have noticed that she is fully bloomed." 

    A growl ripped from Eli's and Violet's throats at the same time, neither one like him talking about her in this manner.  "Sorry." Alex looks down with a smirk still present on his face.  

Violet then felt bad "I am sorry I growled." and she grabbed Alex's hand he looked up at her surprise written all over his face.  He then looked to his brother with a look of fear. 

    "Let. go. of. his. hand!" Eli growled anger and authority dripping off of every word.  He was glaring at Alex.  

"Excuse me.  Last time I checked I was allowed to do whatever I wanted and you were not my father." Violet stated ferociously.  How dare he tell me what to do she thought, holding onto Alex's hand tighter.

"I told you to let go.  I can't stand to see you touching another man or pup in Alex's case." Eli was starting to calm down. Until Violet did something either very brave or very stupid.  She stood up, walked behind Alex still not letting go of his hand.  Looked at Eli straight in the eyes and kissed Alex on the top of his head.  You would have thought flames were going to shoot out of Eli's ears as he turns around and smashed the mirror behind him.  "Why!" he growled 

"You can't tell me what to do!" Violet lets go of Alex's hand finally and Alex quickly takes his exit.  She stomps over to Eli till she is inches away from his face. "Are you jealous or something? Alex is like a little brother.  How dare you dictate how I treat him.  I growled at him which isn't right." She takes a deep breath in the middle of her tirade. "You have no claim over me. No Authority. You have no right!" She stands there glaring at him when she notices a note of anguish in his eyes mixed with his own anger. She steps back trying to make the anger subside but she wasn't sure if she was angry with him anymore or herself.  She felt conflicted after seeing the anguish in his eyes.  Something deep down had her regretting her words, making her angry again. 

    "Vi." Eli says softly "I think you need to read these."  He hands over the envelope  "You probably want privacy so I will give that to you. However, we have something to discuss and you may not like it." He looks away not sure how to finish "So when your ready I will explain why I react the way I do, but, you need to read this first."  He turns around and walks away, leaving Violet in the dining room.  

    Violet decides it is best to leave the boys. She walks towards the door and sees Alex out of the corner of her eyes.  She turns her head "Sorry kid.  I lost my cool, I shouldn't have used you like that."  

"It's okay.  It was fun to see Eli's eyes pop out of his head like that.  Besides he shouldn't tell you what to do.  Just take it easy on him okay.  He can't help it." Alex gives a small smile and walks into another room.  

    Violet made her way to the boat dock and sat down in the beautiful Oregon sunshine.  Summer really was the best season.  She looked at the envelope in her hand.  She slowly tore it open and out came two letters.  One had a blue wax seal with the initials H. D. she careful broke the seal and started to read:

My Dearest Violet,

    If you are reading this letter then I have done my job in protecting you, but lost myself in the process.  I want you to know I love you with all of my heart.  You have been such a light to Your father and me since the day I found out I was pregnant.   Everyone was so excited to meet you and have you as the daughter of their alpha.  

    I want you to know who I am and where you came from.  You, my beautiful girl, come from a long line of powerful alphas.  Starting with your great, great grandfather all the way down to me your mother.  I am the first female alpha, Hazel Davenport Alpha of the Blue Lake Pack.  You, my daughter, are destined for greatness.  Don't ever let anyone make you think otherwise.  I took over my father's pack at 19 years old and had you only two years later.  The pack is the most powerful pack of the Northwest and because of this, we had enemies who wanted nothing more than to bring us down.  They wanted my line to end.  

    Your father and I want nothing more than for you to be able to lead when my reign has come to an end.  It seems it has already.  We wanted you to have a chance to be human-like your father so in the event that we had to leave you, you would go to live with your Aunt and Uncle. They promised to raise you as their own and continue to bring you back to where the pack territory lies, so you can stay familiar with your home.  Anthony Lake is a beautiful place to grow up Vi.  I hope you treasure it as much as I do.

    My little Vi, there is so much I wish I could tell you.  I hope I get to. I know you will do great things and be the best alpha wolf or human.  I will be watching you from above. Remember the pack is also your family you will never be alone as long as you have them.

    Tears fell from Violets eyes landing on the only thing she has ever had from her mother.  My mother was Alpha and my father was human she thought to herself.  Then a thought crossed her mind I am living in my pack territory.  Why did I not see any other wolves? Will I see them now? She was left with more questions.  She looked down at the next letter. She held it for what was possibly hours unsure if she could take anymore.  She stood up and walked back to the cabin.  I need to rest before I can read another.
