Blurb

en years ago, a stormy night at the Hollow Spur Ranch changed everything. A girl vanished, a boy was left bleeding, and Lena Carver ran from Silver Creek with more questions than answers.

Now, after her estranged father’s death, Lena returns home — older, harder, and determined to settle old debts. But the quiet Montana town she left behind still remembers her, and not kindly. The Carver name carries too much history, too many whispers.

When a rusted bracelet and human remains are unearthed on her family’s land, Lena finds herself drawn back into a mystery she thought was long buried. Sheriff Cade Rylan — the boy she once loved and the man she never stopped thinking about — is leading the investigation. Their reunion stirs up more than unfinished feelings; it reopens wounds the town has worked hard to hide.

But the bones don’t belong to who everyone thinks they do. And as Lena uses her forensic skills to give a face back to the dead, she begins to realize that someone in Silver Creek doesn’t want the truth uncovered.

Every clue points closer to her family. Every secret drags her deeper into danger. And every look from Cade reminds her that some hearts — and some lies — never really stay buried.

In a town where everyone has something to lose, Lena must decide how far she’s willing to go for the truth… and who she can trust when the shadows start closing in.

Prologue — “The Night It All Fell Apart”
Ten Years Ago The rain came down hard that night, drumming against the tin roof of the old barn. Wind howled through the broken slats, carrying the scent of wet hay and fear. Lena Carver’s hands trembled as she held the flashlight. The beam quivered across the floorboards, catching dust, ropes, and muddy footprints leading toward the back. “Cade?” she whispered. Her voice was barely a sound over the storm. He was somewhere behind her — she could hear his boots crunching in the dirt. “Lena, wait—” But she didn’t. She moved toward the sound she’d heard moments ago — that low, awful thud. Her heart hammered as the light caught something pale near the corner. It wasn’t a body. Not this time. Just an old feed sack torn open, spilling oats. She exhaled shakily. “God… I thought—” “Don’t scare me like that,” Cade said, stepping into view. His shirt was soaked, hair plastered to his forehead. At eighteen, he was all broad shoulders and reckless courage — the kind that got people hurt. Lena wiped a strand of wet hair from her face. “You’re the one who dragged me out here.” “I heard something,” he said. “Voices. And your dad’s truck—” Lightning flashed through the open doorway, painting his face in white and shadow. Then they heard it again. A door slamming. Footsteps. Someone running. Cade’s hand shot out, pulling Lena behind him. “Stay here.” “Cade, don’t—” But he was already moving. Lena caught only glimpses — his silhouette darting between beams of light, the storm outside raging harder. Then came a shout, muffled by thunder. “Cade!” she screamed. No answer. Her flashlight flickered — once, twice — then went out. For a long, breathless minute, all she could hear was rain and her own heartbeat. Then silence. When the lights came back on, everything had changed. A man was gone. Cade was hurt. And Lena Carver would never be the same.
