I was snapped back to reality when I heard Alpha Samson Blake announce Dimon’s name. My heart skipped a beat. When I heard that, I was back in the pack meeting.

Alpha Samson Blake continued, saying that Dimon had made his choice.

In three months, on Dimon’s birthday, he and Mira would be mated. It was a punch in the gut. My mate, Dimon, was marrying someone else, and everyone was supposed to be happy about it.

I felt a combination of emotions rising in me. I wanted to cry, to shout, but I held it all in. It didn’t matter anymore. There was nothing I could do about it; Dimon had made his decision.

Chapter 1: Tessa’s Struggles
TESSA'S POINT OF VIEW I’d been in bed for over a week, completely disconnected from the world. I couldn’t keep any food down, and every time I tried, I felt worse. I couldn’t help but feel like I was getting further and further away from my family, my friends, and my pack. I hated being alone; I felt so weak. It just seemed like everything I wanted was slipping out of my grasp, and I couldn’t do anything to stop it every time I thought about it. The worst part was that I knew that something I couldn’t control had messed up my situation, something as far out of my hands as the will of the Luna Spirit. And to make things worse, they matched me with Dimon James. He was the one person I thought I’d be with forever for two years. Now, instead of being with me, he was going to marry Mira Jones, the girl who had been my childhood babysitter. When I thought about it, I couldn’t stop the ache in my chest. I remember the day they announced it. It was during a pack meeting. We had all been called together by Alpha Samson Blake to talk about the recent rogue attacks. A raid badly injured my father, Victor, so he couldn't attend the meeting and missed the announcement about what would happen next. I walked into the room and saw Dimon sitting there, looking guilty. He glanced at me and then glanced away. I said nothing, but it hurt to see him like that. I looked at my brother, Theo Willow, who had spent a lot of time with Dimon since they were both in training, but when I asked him what was going on, he just shrugged and said he knew nothing. I saw Mira standing beside Dimon. As an omega, she usually received lower-ranking tasks like cleaning and cooking because of her poor background. I couldn’t help but notice how she stood there so confidently next to Dimon. She was an orphan, and I knew my family helped her a lot over the years, not just because she was part of our pack. But something about the whole thing felt off. The rogue problem was quickly the topic of the meeting. Alpha Samson Blake explained the situation to us for less than five minutes before saying everything would be fine and that our pack was safe. There was something about it that didn’t sit right with me. How did the rogues get into our territory? Our pack ranked third in strength. The Lycans controlled the top two packs, and even rogues wouldn’t dare cross those boundaries. I couldn’t concentrate while the meeting dragged on. I felt myself becoming invisible as nothing mattered the more I sat there. Being a girl, I wasn't allowed to train as a warrior, so I sulked next to my sister Lila and Theo instead of listening to the discussion. Ivy, our stepmother, was at the hospital tending to the injured warriors, so she wasn’t there either. I pushed my worries aside and thought back to my family’s past. My parents met when they were 16. My mom was half wolf, half human. She couldn’t move, but she still had the werewolf’s enhanced senses. The first wolf in our pack to mate with a human, my grandfather, had a lot of hate from other werewolves, especially from my grandmother, Clara. The pack didn’t treat her very well because of her human side. Other werewolves didn't like her. When my grandmother died, my mom moved to human territory to finish her education. She would visit my grandfather during her school breaks, and that’s when she met my dad, Victor. My mom couldn’t shift, but they found out they were mates and completed their mating ritual. Many didn’t think of them as true mates, but my dad stayed by her side through it all. My dad was always there for her, even when she was human, sick, and had to keep travelling back and forth to hospitals. Unfortunately, my mother lost her life, and Lila and I grew up without her. My dad took care of our properties, and she left us everything she had. We lived near werewolf territory now, in a lakeside manor that belonged to Alpha Lucas Stone. My dad’s best friend and my grandfather moved in with us. We had a son named Adrian Hunter, who was a direct descendant of the Wolves, and, as such, people viewed him as a fascinating figure in our community. People said that rain falling during a child's conception was a blessing, a sign of the Moon Spirit's favor. Despite the absence of rain during Theo's conception, my grandfather held the belief that the Moon Spirit had not acknowledged my mom and Ivy as mates. But the Moon Spirit had still blessed us with Theo, so my dad could keep his beta position in the pack. My dad was devastated after my mom died; Ivy came into our lives after that and helped us heal. A few years later, Theo, my stepbrother, was born. I loved Theo and Ivy, and our family situation was complicated. Theo is younger, but they were my family, and they always looked out for me.
