Attacks at the Raitheon City Part I
I. Ned
“After landing on the Ferran Continent 200 years ago, the Droids, as the people call it, ravished and razed cities. They were bloodthirsty monsters who only charged forward, a being with no fear, mercy, or any emotions at all. Decades of fighting caused a major population decline in the world, and most of the casualties were in the Southeastern Countries. People were desperate for hope, and amidst the chaos, a hero was born, the first ruler of the Arcana Empire and the innovator of Arcanis, DeRandor I,. At his command, the four kingdoms of the Southeast united as one. DeRandor pushed back the Droids in the North with his ingenuity and strange tactics, giving humanity time to build walls and prepare for the next wave of Droids! Ain’t that a beautiful story!” I shouted excitedly but was met with drowsy eyes by my colleagues.
“Yeah sure, do you believe it happened? Maybe it’s just some story created by some rat just like us,” Daniel said.
“It’s one hell of a story, don’t you think? An innovator who saved the world, I tell ya the author of this book is probably rich now.”
“Or dead.”
“That too probably.”
I sat down on the bench in the park, aching from standing up for minutes trying to portray the story of DeRandor I. But my non-believer friends probably memorized the story because I’ve always been telling this to them since we were ten. Daniel and Volt were my only friends and the only family I have now. We grew up together at the orphanage called ‘Havenwood for Children’. After witnessing abusive acts, we escaped traveling endlessly so that none of those pursuers captured us.
“Did you wait long?” we immediately turned our faces around.
“We just finished Ned’s story, Mr. Greg,” Volt answered.
“That long huh.”
It is our good friend, Mr. Greg a trader at Aurum Haven City. He’s one of the good guys. He gave us shelter, food, and work after escaping the orphanage. I think being an orphan himself, Mr. Greg understands our feelings now we work for him.
“Where’s Maisy?” Daniel asked.
“Left her back with Luke at the Trade Center.”
Daniel is not happy about it, Luke, the eternal rival of Daniel for Maisy’s love, can’t blame him though. Maisy is beautiful. She’s also quite an achiever, topping almost every basic Arcanis subject. She is a natural-born Arcanis User.
“Hey, why the long face? You know she’s safe with Luke.” He stared at me with killing intent. I just smirked at him, irritating him more.
“My daughter is off-limits.”
“Then why is he with Luke?” Daniel asked.
“I like that guy.” Mr. Greg answers.
Sorry buddy, you’re nowhere near Luke. I put my hand on his shoulders, giving him the most supportive, sad, and irritating eyes that I could provide.
“Man, f*ck off.” Daniel annoyingly said, wiping my hand off his shoulders.
“Hey, knock it off-” Volt exclaimed. “So why are we here Mr. Greg?”
“I’d like you to deliver these books.”
“Where?” I asked.
“Raitheon City, The Greper’s Library specifically.”
Raitheon City, last time I checked the City was under military control because of the terrorist attacks recently. The elected Governor of the City, Gov. Rebaum has been accused as the mastermind of the murders of Mr. And Mrs. Troilan, the City’s business owner and a public figure, the Troilan Family openly opposes the separation of Advance-Level Arcanis and Average-Level Arcanis students. This incident not only led to the murder, but it also caused widespread terrorism, riots, and chaos throughout the City, postponing trade and travel inside the City and the deployment of the 15th Arcanis Combat Corp.
“Isn’t it a bit too hot now in the City? The Combat Corp is still there, right?” I asked.
“You don’t need to go inside, the Library is located at the edge of the city.”
“That’s a relief, imagine getting caught in the middle of the chaos-” Daniel said. “-they do love their books,” he added.
“What’s not to love about books?” I annoyingly ask.
“Here we go-” Volt breathed out a huge sigh “-quit it you two, we’ll make sure we deliver the books right on time Mr. Greg,” Volt said.
“Alright, the car is parked there, here’s the keys-” he hands the keys to Volt “-the man you’ll meet is Mr. Dave Connor, he’ll unload the goods into his car, you get the payment and that’s it. If anything happens, call me.”
“Yes, Mr. Greg.”
Both Daniel and I followed Volt into the parking lot. Mr. Greg left instantly to fetch both Maisy and Luke. The car looked ordinary, a little bit worn down but had thick metal platings which is very unusual for a car, since these thick platings are used for the military.
“Isn’t it odd? The metal platings, they’re so thick,” I muttered.
“Yeah, it’s weird the usual delivery cars have lighter and thinner platings, to increase speed,” Daniel added.
“Probably for protection, the city isn’t safe right now, and who knows, we might even run into a combat,” Said Volt.
“Still a bit too overkill, we’ll probably be late for an hour because of these heavy platings.”
“We’ll be fine Ned, as long as we meet the guy, deliver the books, and leave. We’re good,” Volt said.
“Yeah, then let’s leave.”

We took turns driving the car, it. It was Daniel's turn now. We passed through woods, small towns, and high roads. We agreed to make a stop at the sixth hour. It had only been three hours since we left Emberfall City and in those three hours, we saw more air warships than cars going towards Raitheon City.
“Man, I can’t imagine being in the city right now,” I said.
“It all started with those murders,” Daniel answered.
“It got really bad real quick too-” Volt took out his phone “- On the news, many of the Troilan Family Loyalists didn’t like the Troilan Family, that the real murderers were from their side in the first place.”
“If that happens to me, I’ll be super pissed,” I said.
“I’ll be the one to murder you though,” Daniel said with a little laugh.
“I’d like to see you try, short guy.”
“I’m not that short. I’m quite adorable, what’s the word ah, cute, right ‘cute’ if I say so myself.”
“Delusions are life-threatening.”
Daniel and I continued like that for almost three hours until we found a little gas station beside the road. We woke up Volt who had probably given up listening to both of us quarreling like a child. We picked up some food and drinks, and we headed out again. There’s no need to waste more time. I’m the one driving now. A few more hours passed, and we’re traveling now to Gurneth Town and there was no sign of people beside the road.
“Isn’t this place a bit livelier the last time we arrived here,” Volt uttered.
“I think they’re still in range of the Martial Law,” I answered.
“We need to be more careful too, the military might spot us.”
“Yeah, I’ll be using the path Mr. Greg gave.”
After taking a detour to the unusual path in the woods, we managed to sneak into the Grahman Forest, east of the City. We parked at the nearby shack that matched the description and picture given to us by Mr. Greg. Volt knocked a few times, but no one answered.
“I guess we wait.” He uttered.
“I’ll survey the area,” Daniel said.
“I’ll check this way too,” I said, pointing at the path between the grass. It was almost five o’clock when we arrived at the destination, and the ride took almost nine hours. Darkness rises, and we decide to open the shack. It was never locked, we rested our bodies after surveying the area for thirty minutes. Volt then decides to call Mr. Greg.
“There’s no reception. I’ll go out”
“There’s no signal outside either.”
After Daniel spoke, Volt saw someone outside. He immediately notified us of the incoming man. A man was wearing a tuxedo, covered with a black coat.
“Are you Mr. Connor?” Volt asks.
“Yes, yes I am, here’s my Identification.” The guy handed it his Identification form, I.D., and Bracelet Code.
Volt gave them to me. I checked if the documents were fabricated, and seeing the quality of the papers and the I.D. everything checked out as real. I gave Volt a nod to confirm it.
And then I heard a loud shot. The man, Dave Connor, was lying on the ground. I stared at Volt who shot the gun, he then proceeded to point it at Daniel, who took out his gun, also pointing at Volt.
“How many of you are here?” Volt asks Daniel. Staring blankly at his face.
“What the f**k is going on?!” I shouted.
“So you’re one of the rats now, huh, Volt. I should’ve seen it coming,” Daniel said.
I’m looking at my two friends pointing each other’s guns, while I’m here freaking out trying to understand what’s happening.
“Guys! Cut it out.”
“He’s one of them, Ned,” Daniel said.
Volt tilts his head slowly.
“He’s one of what?!”
“He’s one of the Governor Rebaum's rats.”
