Chapter 1

"Boss, you mentioned before that you wanted to send me to the overseas branch. I've made my decision. I'll go." My boss froze for a moment, clearly surprised. "Are you sure? The overseas branch is extremely busy. If you go, you and Adrian will have to live apart. Didn't you turn me down last time because Adrian was too attached to you? You said you couldn't bear to leave him and go abroad." Standing in the bar restroom, I stared at the countless marks of intimacy covering my neck. A bitter smile spread across my face. "I'm planning to get a divorce. From now on, I'll focus entirely on my career." My boss sighed and reminded me, "I've booked your flight for a week from now. Handle the divorce properly. Don't make things too ugly between you two. After all, you and Adrian have been together for so many years." I hummed in response, lowering my gaze to the cold wedding ring on my finger. My eyes slowly turned red. 'That's right. It's already been ten years.' I was lost in thought when my phone screen lit up. It was a message from Adrian urging me. Adrian: Why aren't you here yet? The rain is getting heavier. I didn't reply immediately. Instead, I opened the application form for the overseas project on my phone and checked it one last time. Only after confirming everything was in order did I leave the restroom. "Why did you take so long?" Adrian was lazily leaning against the booth, clearly displeased by my lateness. "The rain was too heavy. There was a traffic jam." I casually made up an excuse and was about to sit down beside him when Adrian spoke in a teasing tone. "Don't sit there. That's not your place." His words were like a switch. Everyone in the private room burst into laughter. "That's right. That's not your seat." One of Adrian's closest friends spoke first, his face full of amusement. "How could you sit on the sofa? Of course, you should be sitting on Adrian's lap." The others joined in with suggestive smiles. "Exactly. Look, all our girls are sitting on our laps." I looked up and realized it was true. Among the men in the room, several had women dressed provocatively sitting in their arms. Noticing my gaze, the men became even more shameless. Their heavy breathing and flirtatious laughter filled the entire room. Adrian's friend continued to play with the woman in his arms while looking at me lecherously. "Don't just stand there watching. Take care of Adrian too." I said nothing, but my heart sank. I knew exactly who those women were. They were the bar's notorious escorts. And I was Adrian's wife. His legal wife. The woman who had married him in a grand ceremony, the woman who had stood beside him and made vows before everyone. I clenched my wedding ring tightly. My nails dug into my palm, causing a sharp pain that felt exactly like this rotten marriage. But I still raised my eyes toward Adrian, who had remained silent the entire time. I was waiting for him to say something. Adrian didn't spare me a single glance. His attention remained fixed on the glass in his hand, as if he couldn't hear the mockery hidden in their words. Only when the private room finally fell silent did he frown and reach out to me, offering a careless attempt at comfort. "They're just joking around. Don't take it seriously." Seeing that I still didn't respond, he finally softened his expression, casually scolded his friends a couple of times, and pulled me down beside him. "Alright, don't be angry. I'll teach them a lesson next time." The atmosphere became lively again. Leaning against Adrian's chest, I silently thought about how I could end this marriage with whatever dignity I had left. Suddenly, the door to the private room was pushed open. A woman in a white dress walked in. "Adrian?" Almost instantly, everyone pushed away the women in their arms and hurriedly fixed their clothes. Including Adrian. He shoved me aside without hesitation, stood up, and walked toward Selena. Covering her eyes with his hand, he spoke in a voice so gentle it seemed to melt. "Be good, Selena. Wait outside for a moment. We'll clean everything up first." Then he turned to the others, his eyes filled with warning. "Why are you still standing there? Get these women out of here. Don't let them dirty Selena's eyes." Everyone immediately got up. Some opened the windows, while others hurriedly escorted the women out. Someone even thoughtfully turned on all the lights. The private room became as bright as daylight. But my heart had completely fallen into darkness. 'So this is what Adrian looks like when he truly cares about someone.'
