Breakfast passed, and Adrian's grandmother bid us goodbye as she left for her estate.
Adrian and I stepped out of the restaurant to find his chauffeur already waiting there.
I figured he might've texted or called him while we were eating. He opened the door for me, and I entered before he followed suit.
An awkward silence settled between us as I looked at the passing scenery, trying so hard to pretend I couldn't feel Adrian's eyes on me.
"I'm sorry about this morning," he said, taking my hand, but I didn't look at him.
He shouldn't have apologized because I'm actually everything he accused me of.
"It's nothing," I said, my guilt already catching up with me.
Adrian sighed, scooting closer. "Are you angry?" he asked, and I finally turned to look at him, his scent already invading my senses. I took a deep breath to gulp it down.
"Am I supposed to?" I asked back, looking away.
I know I'm not being fair, especially when I'm wrong, but I couldn't help guilt-tripping Adrian.
"Actually, you have every right to be angry. I'm truly sorry. I might not have thought about it before, but maybe whoever did this is aware you're my girlfriend and is trying to put you under the spotlight to evade being caught," he said, and I nodded gingerly, leaning into him.
"It could be," I said, and he relaxed when I leaned against him moving his hand on my back .
We settled into a comfortable silence each of us occupied with our thoughts. The silence stretched for a long time and I closed my eyes briefly to open them on Adrian's words.
"Grandma was right about me not wanting anyone to be close to me," Adrian said breaking the silence, he brushed his hand through my hair.
I looked up at him. "Really? What happened?" I asked.
He leaned down, kissing my lips. "You're so pretty without even trying to be," he complimented, as if he couldn't get enough of me, and I blushed.
But then I winced when I realized he was literally complimenting my fake face.
"About that..." He paused before continuing. "I once had a girlfriend who used to be a family friend. One my grandmother had played a role in matchmaking. She cheated on me with her ex on my birthday, and so I didn't actually let anyone get too close," he explained, leaning down to kiss my lips again and I smiled.
"I'm sorry about that," I said, unsure of what to say when I'm far worse than his ex. "Don't be. I wouldn't have paid any mind to you if she hadn't left," he said, brushing my cheek.
I leaned forward to kiss his lips, and the car stopped.
I pulled away to see we were several steps away from the company. I turned to get down, but Adrian pulled me back, gripping my chin as he deepened the kiss.
He sucked my lips, biting them, and I opened my mouth to give him access to my mouth.
His hot tongue entered my mouth, and I curled my toes at the tremors it sent through me. I returned the kiss, bringing my hands up to wrap around his neck.
The chauffeur , as if reading the mood exited the car, and I pulled back from the kiss to see Adrian's annoyed expression, as if someone had interrupted his favorite cake.
"Someone is going to see us," I said, trying to get out, but Adrian stopped me, pinning me to the door.
"f**k whoever sees us," he said, undoing my first two buttons as he deepened the kiss. His mouth trailed along my jaw as he bit it harshly, and I snapped out of it.
"It's going to leave a hickey!" I screeched.
I didn't mind getting all hot with Adrian, but a hickey at work on my jaw would be so embarrassing and difficult to hide.
Adrian pulled away, brushing his hand through his hair trying so hard to control himself.
"You're intoxicating, Ariana, and I can't seem to get enough of you," Adrian confessed with drowsy eyes, and I blushed.
I quickly closed my top two buttons and got out of the car. I saw Adrian closing his eyes as he leaned against the seat he looked at me the left corner of his lips pulling up , and his chauffeur entered before driving away.
"Oh my God, Ariana Boulder! That was freaking hot!" I heard Kendra yell behind me, and my eyes widened as I covered her mouth with my hands.
"Don't tell me you saw us?" I asked, petrified. But Kendra grinned from ear to ear, looking at me.
"I actually did, and it would've been worse if anyone else saw you both. Trust me, I never knew Our cold CEO could kiss like that. You both got my lonely ahh smiling," she lamented, and I smiled, smacking her hands as we got to the company.
Kendra and I parted ways when I entered my office, only to receive a text from the agency.
Have you been able to retrieve the three years' worth of product information?
My eyes widened, remembering that I was supposed to leave the country tomorrow.
I quickly texted back:
I couldn't because Adrian's grandmother interrupted. I swear I didn't know, and now I need to go to the Blackwood family estate tonight.
The person texted back . What?
Almost immediately, a call came through. I hesitated for a bit before picking it up.
"What the f**k, Aria! The Boss is already angry about everything falling apart, and you're worsening it by going to their estate?!"
I moved the phone a little away from my ear.
"I didn't know she was going to show up. Trust me, I don't even want to go either," I answered.
The man on the other end began laughing maniacally, causing a shiver to run down my spine. "Listen to me carefully, Aria. We already have someone there monitoring you. If you f*****g slip up, I won't hesitate for them to kill you! I don't care how you'll do it, but grab the three years' worth of product information. You're leaving tomorrow!"
The phone beeped, and I slumped into my office chair, my hands shaking.
Someone was already here monitoring me?!
