“Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”

I remember seeing that passage when I ‘fell’ from grace. It was the last thing I saw before I was stripped of my heavenly being, my wings ripped from my body and dropped to the ground, back into this mortal body for my second chance.

------------------------

A circle of flames appeared before me as not God himself, but Lucifer, rose from the ground to heed my call.

‘The almighty can’t be here to help you, little one, so he sent me in his stead. What is it that you need?’

Chapter 1 – The Prayer
I knelt to the ground. My knees becoming damp from the puddle I was in. Sounds of the city and the aroma of this alley pierced my senses as I tried to concentrate. I cannot take this anymore I thought to myself. It is just too much for me to take. I need help. I needed him. I needed to talk to him, just once more. I always prayed and he always answered me. He freed me from all my fears. He always did that. He always seemed to know when I needed his help. I just held my hands tighter, bowed and started to pray. I’m not the only one, I know that. He has many other clients that he must attend to. I am just low on the totem pole. ‘Please…’ I whispered in a hushed cry. I clinched my hands harder, as if this would bring him back to me just for the moment that I needed him.   Second chance angles are usually given one more chance to prove their worth before they are accepted to heaven or rejected to hell. We can ask for help, but only for certain things, and it looks like I may have run out of my help.   “Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” I remember seeing that passage when I ‘fell’ from grace. It was the last thing I saw before I was stripped of my heavenly being, my wings ripped from my body and dropped to the ground, back into this mortal body for my second chance. This body, this mortal body, is in pain. In my desperation I prayed, and then he listened. A circle of flames appeared before me as not God himself, but Lucifer, rose from the ground to heed my call. ‘The almighty can’t be here to help you, little one, so he sent me in his stead. What is it that you need?’ Dumbfounded, I had to try and find my tongue. He did not appear as we had been taught: no horns upon his head nor blistering red skin. No hooven feet or dripping fangs, no pointed tail. He appeared as if he was human. A human in a suit and holding a cane. ‘I see that you are confused, fallen one.’ He used his cane to tilt my chin upwards. ‘You see, the big man, the one that you hold on high, is actually a bit of a, how shall we say, promise breaker.’ I pulled my face away as tears started to roll down my face. This had to be a trick. He was listening to me. ‘What I mean is that sometimes, well, most times, he is a bit of a non-shower. He does not listen, nor does he care. Why do you think that he put you in this body to suffer?’ He squatted down to my level. ‘Come with me, let’s get you out of this alley and into a better setting. Maybe some warm clothes and a nice meal. How long has it been since you have eaten? Slept in a warm bed? Had the company of someone who wasn’t wanting you for just your body?’ He stood up and offered a hand. A nice place sounded wonderful considering I had been in and out of various homeless shelters and piss covered boxes for too long. One night of not having to scrape for food, avoiding the police, or trying to steer clear of other people looking to hurt you. I waited for what seemed like an eternity but with no help in sight, I took his hand. He helped me to my feet, and we walked to the nearest hotel. This was how my time with Lucifer began.
