Blurb

Panting.

Gasping.

Blood-curdling whispers.

Elizabeth ran through the thorny forest barefooted as a man dressed in a black thick coat which covered his body with the hood over his head chased her.

"You can run but you can't hide my love," his voice was like daggers cutting through her skin.

He appeared right in front of her and she stopped dead in her tracks whimpering in fear.

"I've waited five generations to make you mine, I won't lose you this time," his hand went to the hood of his coat revealing his dark hair. His hypnotizing black eyes, glowing with mischief in the moonlight scanned Elizabeth's pale face.

"I've always fought to have you," his large veiny hand cupped her cheeks and she shuddered in his touch. His eyes were closed and he scowled, twisting his neck in annoyance as he saw their past together. "When I eventually did have you, you killed yourself."

His eyes flickered open and his voice turned into a low-hush sending chills down her spine as he said, "Angel of God, turn to darkness. You belong to darkness. You belong to me."

And that's how my dreams always end.

PROLOGUE
AUTHOR P.O.V HEY GUYS, I'm sorry if this chapter may seem a bit rushed. It's a prologue and I just wanted to highlight Elizabeth's past. ****** ARIZONA. 1999 Elizabeth's legs stiffened as he cupped her cheek. The metallic taste of blood on her tongue was the least of her worries. How could she escape this deranged man? "When I finally found you, you killed yourself. Was he better than me? Is he still, my love?” His eyes flickered open, like a spark igniting a flame. His expression contorted in agony, and his voice turned blood-curdling. "Angel of God, turn to darkness. You belong to darkness, Elizabeth. You belong to me." "Beth!" Eleanor James called out, shattering the nightmare. Elizabeth sat up with a jolt, her eyes wide open. She hadn't been sleeping. Her eyes were wide open when she had the nightmare. It wasn't until Erik Haywards, the covetous chemistry tutor for sophomores in Ravenwood High School asked her a question multiple times but she didn't reply that everyone thought she was actually asleep with her eyes open. “Was she sleeping with her eyes closed?” Bethany Jacobs, a girl coated in purple and black makeup with a bad haircut dyed in purple, chuckles lightly. “Are you okay?” Eleanor looks at Elizabeth worriedly as she adjusted herself uncomfortably. “Any problem Miss Creeper?”Erik Haywards asks, holding a long cane in his hand that he barely used. “Yes, probably because she's a creep.” Bethany scoffs and the class laughs. “There is no problem Mr. Haywards,” Elizabeth replied glaring at Bethany as she suddenly regained her confidence. “In that case. Keep your head in the class and not in some boys pants,” “That doesn't even make any sense-” Eleanor stood up in protest at her teacher's words. She couldn't tolerate anyone talking down on her friend. “It's fine Eleanor. Sit down,” Elizabeth looked up at Eleanor who was sending daggers to Erik with her eyes. She scoffs and sits. Elizabeth got up, still feeling uneasy because of her nightmare. She looked at Crater Simon who sat at the back seat next to the wall, staring out the window. He always sat next to her during their classes together, so she didn't understand why he suddenly changed today. She looked at Erik and walked towards the door. “I have to use the bathroom, excuse me,” without waiting for his reply, she left the classroom. One of the perks of being in a poor public high school. As she left the class, her heart began to race and she was out of breath. She held her chest and walked to the bathroom. That's how it always was. Pretending to be strong when she wasn't. She washed her face and looked at the mirror: dull gray eyes filled with emptiness stared back at her. Her face was very pale without makeup. She didn't understand why she looked close to a corpse. No one knew what she really looked like underneath her makeup. The doorknob began to move and she gasped. Before she reached out to lock the door, it was already opened. She gasped softly and looked at Crater in shock as his brown eyes stared into her gray one's. His face was unreadable which was uncanny. Crater had always been the jovial type, what changed? “Crate,” her voice was low and filled with worry. He entered the bathroom and locked it. Elizabeth swallowed and looked at the pendant that he always had on, trying to hide her face from him. The pendant had a carving of an angel in blue and a demon in red. “What are you doing here?” “Are you okay?” He asked, his British accent low and husky. She sighed and ran a hand through. “I told you to stop getting worked up about me,” she grabbed her makeup kit in her bag she had taken from her locker, and began applying the makeup. “I asked if you're okay, ” he said, scowling at her in the mirror. She looked at him in the mirror and frowned in confusion. “Are you okay? I’ve never seen you this way before.” She asked softly, trying to break into his hard demeanor. Crater's gaze lingered, then he turned to leave. Elizabeth grabbed his hand, and he jerked away, his eyes flashing with a warning. "Never touch me again." His eyes softened a bit when he saw the terrified look on her face but then he walked away. Elizabeth stared at the bathroom door in shock. That wasn't the Crater she knew. What happened to her best friend? She wanted answers so she ran after him ignoring her half completed makeup. She spotted him walking down the hallway casually like nothing had happened, his back muscles contracting and relaxing as he walked. “Crater,” she ran towards him. He stopped at the sound of her voice but didn't turn around. She stopped behind him and stared up at him panting. “It's me Beth, if anything is bothering you, you can always tell me. I don't like this side of you Crate,” she said and his hand folds into a fist making the vein on his hand more visible. “Did I do anything Crate?” She asks, her girly emotions getting the best of her as her eyes glistened with tears. “No,” he finally replied after a minute of heart wrenching silence. “but…I'll make sure you won't see this side of me again.” He continued walking off. When Elizabeth continued chasing after him, he stopped and stared at her with sudden immense hatred. Elizabeth gasped and was stopped. She could have sworn she saw the devil in his eyes. His intense gaze swept over her. She knew she wasn't looking at her best friend. The boy who couldn't go a day without talking to her. This wasn't him. “Stay away from me, Elizabeth.” he warned vehemently and left the hallway, leaving his cruel voice resounding in Elizabeth's ear. The bell rang for recess and students poured into the hallway. They stared at Elizabeth as she stood in the center of the hallway frozen. Their laughter didn't seem to bother her. All she could hear was the cruel voice of the boy she loved so much warning her to stay away. How could a person change so much in less than twenty four hours? **. ** “Have you seen Crate? He didn't attend Geology and he isn't walking home with us.” Eleanor spoke as her and Elizabeth walked down the streets of Arizona. The clouds were dark like it was going to rain but that wasn't the case. The whole weather had been eerie for the past week. “Come to think of it, I haven't seen him since he left class during chemistry,” Eleanor says and Elizabeth, who was in a foul mood since Crater left her in shock, looked at Eleanor. “Eleanor-” She stops talking as her eyes trails to the sky and she sees a large cloud of smoke. The smell of carbon monoxide punctured her nose. Eleanor followed her gaze and she gasped at the sight of smoke. Elizabeth didn't even know when her feet began to move towards the source of the fire hidden in front of the many trees surrounding her. She knew the only house that was there. The house of the Creepers. As she got through the trees, she stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of her house completely burnt down and emitting smoke. Bunch of firemen and medics wearing a smoke mask came out of the house with the burnt bodies of three people on a stretcher. Elizabeth released a little gasp as she looked at the golden bracelet she had bought for her mum on her thirtieth birthday on one of the corpse deformed wrist. “Mum…dad, Charlie,” she breathed and held her chest and almost fell to the ground but Eleanor caught her. Elizabeth's eyes sprung tears and she pointed at the corpse that was being covered. “That's my family,” Elizabeth tried to pull out of Eleanor's grip but Eleanor caught her, and her Aunt, Sofie appeared, holding Elizabeth as she sobbed. "I know, sweetie. I'm so sorry." As the corpses were loaded into the ambulance, Elizabeth saw Crater standing in the woods, his eyes fixed on the burning house. Her gaze was blurred as she stared at him, everywhere was suddenly quiet. Then, he vanishes. And since then, that was the last she saw of Crater Simon. He was gone, without saying goodbye.
