CHAPTER 4

Crater sat on the pavements of the fountain in the center of the school. There was a statue of an angel who stood on one foot while the other feet raised as it held a harp and water poured out of its mouth. Crater was in deep thought as his hand moved in the water, back and forth. The sunlight shone in the water which reflected in his eyes making him look glorious. His face wore an unreadable look. “Crater,” The bold, irresistible voice of Sabastine broke his silence. He watched through the waters as the refraction of Sabastine sat next to him. Despite the broken image, Crater could tell he was smirking. “You have geology,”Sabastine said ruefully. Crater eyes never left the water, he scowled instead. “Why were you talking to her?” Crater ignored his sarcasm. Sabastine sighed and looked at the burnt building. “I didn't come here for no reason,” Sabastine said with growing contempt but it was concealed by the smirk on his face. “I know what you are up to, stay away from her.” Crater glared at Sabastine who chuckled lightly but then it turned into a loud evil laugh. His eyes darkened suddenly and he looked at Crater. “aren't you tired of obsessing over what you can't have?” “I never obsessed over her because I had her,” Crater's face moved closer to Sabastine's, his face laced with anger. “before you took her away from me.” “Don't forget what she did to you the last time,” Sabastine stared deeply at Crater and watched carefully and caught a hint of hurt in his eyes then he smirked, “the toxicity of love. How did it feel to be betrayed by the one you love?” Crater's fist clenched and shook in anger as the memory of his past crept back in. The memory that still bore deeply into his heart. It killed him silently everyday. “Elizabeth is different from Arial,” Crater grunted and Sabastine stood and cast his shadow over him. “That's what you thought of Lucinda and Ariana,” Sabastine said.” you've had your chance and you failed. She's mine this time…. brother,” Crater looked up at Sabastine with contempt. Although he wanted to speak with Elizabeth so badly, the weight of the past held him back. After all, she had always been the cause of all his misfortunes. “You would never be able to handle her,” said Sabastine with disdainful fury. Crater stood up, looking slightly down at Sabastine who was an inch taller than Crater. Their eyes darkened as they stared at each other, a past hidden anger in their eyes. No one would ever be able to guess they were once inseparable. “And that's why you keep tormenting her in her dreams,”anger mixed with jealousy ran through Crater's course. “What dreams?” Sabastine smirked, tilting his head to look at Crater in mockery. Crater's anger flared and he grabbed the collar of Sabastine cloth, twisting it tightly. “I saw you standing outside the school that day I left Arizona. You stood by the gates with your eyes closed when she was dreaming,” Sabastines smirk widened,” I guess it shouldn't be called a dream again.” “You are hurting her,”Crater's eyes softened. He was hurting her too, more than he knew. After all he left her the time she needed his comfort the most. Sabastine's hands slowly went to Crater's and he jerked his hand away causing Crater to stumble back slightly. “If it will make you feel better, I didn't disturb her dreams,” I tried but I couldn't; he wanted to add. He stared at Crater one last time and walked away, leaving Crater in trepidation. ******** “And that would be all for today,” Mrs. Hazelbutt, the Professor instructing Philosophy in Psychology concluded the lecture . “Any questions?” No one but Bethany raised up her hand. Stewart Iver, an average height shy looking blonde who sat next to Elizabeth groaned. Bethany glared at him and he flinched. She stuck out her middle finger with a very long nails and gestured towards her throat in a threatening manner. “Yes Mrs. Riser,” Hazelbutt called and Elizabeth's eyes widened. Mrs? “That's why she's here,”Stewart said as he noticed Haleys confused look. He spoke in a thick British accent. “married a seventy two years old man and scammed him of his assets.” Elizabeth nodes, her eyes watching Bethany. She had remembered seeing her with an old man, years back. He had a tattoo on his palm. The same as the old man she had seen outside the rehabs gate. Did she know he was here? “When did the era of the psycos begin?” Bethany asked deviously and her friends laughed. “That isn't funny Mrs. Riser, “ The bell rang and the class scrambled away. Stewart stood up with a smile plastered on his childish face. Elizabeth looked up at him and spoke. “I didn't get to say thank you,” she stood putting on her bag. “Im Elizabeth,” “I know, I'm Stewart,” He says nervously, scratching the back of his neck. “Should I call it stalkery?” Elizabeth's eyes flashed with amusement. “No, it's just you are the only person I've seen talking to Lucy and it kind of intrigued me,” he said flustered and Elizabeth chuckled in realization. “You have a crush on Lucy don't you?” She smirked, feeling comfortable in front of the blushing blonde. His gray eyes widened. “I'm too readable, am I?” “Not too readable,” she lied. “How come I haven't seen you talk to her?” He looked at his blue sneakers. He wore a flimsy plaid shirt and black slacks. “She's a bit too busy all the time I had to approach her.” “We are having lunch together, you could join,” “You'd let me?” He said in surprise. “I don't see why not,”she shrugged. Elizabeth saw Crater as he walked past the classroom. Her heartbeat quickened and she hurriedly turned her attention back to Stewart, “I'll see you during recess?” “Yes,” he smiled gratefully. She forced a smile and quickly walked towards the direction Crater had gone. She saw him walking down the hallway and walked quickly passing by the crowd to get to him. Something about that moment felt like it had happened before. He was gone when she passed through the crowd. The old man with the tattoo stood by the water fountain, looking around as if in a hurry to leave. Elizabeth saw as Crater walked to him. She watched as they talked. When the old man left, Elizabeth quickly went after Crater. She stopped running and stared at him as he watched the old man leave, his back faced at her. Her courage was suddenly gone as her eyes lingered on his back. How many times she had hugged him from the back. She knew how much he loved it. But now, she's afraid he'd push her away. When he took a step forward, she called, “Crater.”
