Nnaemeka was under an udala tree with Adaora, just outside the compound of the chief priest, when Ebube came upon them. They were standing too close for Ebube’s liking, and were giggling like teenagers in love. But they quickly comported themselves when they saw Ebube, and acted as if nothing was going on. Ebube dismissed her with a wave of his hand, and as she walked away, Nnaemeka started on a topic of conversation he was sure would keep Ebube from talking about his relationship with the girl.

“True, maybe because they have an undisclosed mission to fulfil.”
