9. A Breath Between Kisses

I can’t believe I’m sat here, opposite them. I could have said no, there was other ways of getting new furniture but I was curious. They seemed eager and I wanted to know how they were going to attempt to woo me. Now it’s like I’m seeing them for the first time. Ben has stubble. It curves around his chiselled jaw and makes him more handsome if that was even possible. His appearance is more rugged and down to earth then Curtis. Curtis oozes confidence and whilst he’s always had a certain charm it seems to have grown. His features are more defined and his choice of clothing has become more expensive. I wonder how much I’ve missed in their lives while I’ve been away. We’re they affected by that night as much as I was? Something I was dying to ask I just didn’t have the nerve. “We ordered you the pasta, that was your favourite before-“ Ben stops and looks around before mumbling. “Before you left.” “It still is.” Ben smiles, chuffed with himself for getting it right. “Why did you bring me here for the first date?” I ask. To be honest I’m slightly underwhelmed. This place is boringly normal. I wasn’t expecting a hot air balloon ride or anything but just something a little... well ... more. They share a smile between them and get out of their chairs. Ben puts his hand out for me and I take it, letting him lead us to the back of the restaurant to an elevator. We get inside and my hand remains comfortably in Ben’s, until the doors opened and we end up in the roof. I gasp. There was no one else here except a few waiters. Everything was beautiful. A date most girls would dream about, though usually it would commence in the evening. Our meals were waiting at the table. I sat down and started eating my pasta. At some point Curtis’s knee pressed against mine and my left hand was touching Ben’s right hand, her fingers dancing over each other’s. I could feel my senses tingling. Why did they have this affect on me? Glimpses of that dream were coming back to me and making me smile. I bit my lip trying to control my wandering mind. Curtis was smiling at me with that cocky grin of his. He knew what he was doing. The waiter refilled our drinks. I took a huge gulp and watched as the waiter slowly retreated leaving us alone. It would seem that I wasn’t the only one watching as Curtis turned to me the minute he left and leaned in close, his lips only inches from mine. “You know you want to.” He mocks. It takes mere seconds for me to react. I attack his lips, losing all sense of decorum as I let his hands guide me out of the chair and over to his lap. My tongue danced with his and it wasn’t until I felt the hardness underneath me that I pulled back sharply. What the hell was I doing? He leaned forward but I put my hand on his chest, feeling his chest breathing heavily under it. “We can’t do this.” I smoothed my clothes and sat back in my chair, finishing my wine in one big swig. The liquor poring inside me soothingly does nothing to ease my thoughts. I can feel the heat rising to my cheeks, under their intense stare. I close my eyes and take a deep breathe to calm myself down and look at the both of them before stating. “We need to set some ground rules.”
